Got this fella just out of hope. My first blackbear, and taken with a single arrow from a Bowtech Patriot. The arrow smashed through on a broadside shot, taking out both lungs and the heart, and stuck into a branch on the ground beyond the bear. He woofed and snapped at his shoulder, then walked into the cedars, but he only made it 5o ft into them before he collapsed. I had a great stalk, from about 600 yds to 42 yds, but couldn't get any closer because the only place downwind of him left to go was over the edge of a cliff. Watched him for about 45 minutes, and then he finally stepped out from the poplars and presented himself broadside at 48 yds. Good thing I practise lots at 60 and had plenty of time to calm down and watch him, as that arrow felt just like another one being slung at a foam board.... He measured out at 5'1", so pretty small compared to some of the brutes the rest of you are posting, but big enough to be a big job for a guy to handle by himself on the pack out. The closest I could bring the truck was just over a km away.

Bears are a bitch to pack out.... especially by yourself. Good work and congrats on a fine bear.

ANY animal with a bow is a trophy....it is not measured in feet and inches it is measured in your conviction to take an animal within BOW range.

Well done.

a small bear with a bow is a greater trophy than a 6 foot bear with a rifle.

Best Bear Story I have read !!!
Actually they are all good stories, but when you have taken the time to practice and then do the stalk...
Well , "I just luv it when a plan comes together..."

Congratulations. The first one doesn't have to be big to be special, there's only ever one First One!! The great thing about an average size bear is you can realisticly expect to get a better one next time.
