we didnt see any grizzlies probobly because there was still heavy snow all over the place and was a little chilly but we had no choice and had to go may 8 - 15 because all hunting partners are not able to go any other time but we thought we would get outside and give it a chance anyway was still a very fun hunting trip and one buddy managed to take his first black bear which was great other then that we did see lots of game and here are some pictures of the trip

Great photos..the hot dogs looked great...

In BC the success rate for NON-GUIDED hunts is 25 % for moose..so on average one would expect to be successful one every 4 years..

For grizzly ..again for NON -GUIDED HUNTS..the success rate is 20 %..

so once every 5 years..and when it may take someone like ..hmmm Gatehouse 20 years to draw a tag...but thats the #'s...

Don this year the weather is 1 month behind..we are seeingApril weather and snow melt conditions here in the Cariboo..some places STILL have 3 feet of snow down by Quesnel Lake..and up the Cunningham Pas STILL HAS 11 feet in places..:eek:

THE most important is you went..had fun...you were successful..

Thanks for the photos...

Steven

How about this theory -
As the hills still have snow, and
As the bears have to wake up due to hunger
The bears are all moved to lower valleys due to snow in the high country.

The critters have to get going regardless of the weather, its the time of year. I've heard of some low level sightings. Its nothing to see bear tracks following a road for dozens of kms.
Anyone else think this way ?
Limited available food plots should make for good hunting.

I concur with your thinking. These heavy snowfall years (at least up north) make for excellent bear hunting. As long as a few open patches exist in the slides come the first or second week of May they should hold a bear or two . . . providing you're in grizz country and providing you can get to these slides. Even though it is a later spring and the snow is deep we found the bears to be out roughly at the same time as a normal year. The difference this year being there was much less area to glass making the bears easier to locate.

I've been in 20 k. on the Beaverfoot a couple of times and seen tracks heading down the road. Wondered about all that greeen we passed out at the Trans-Canada.
Having the heirachy that they do , I suppose the big guys don't have to travel, and the smaller ones have to wonder further, when pickins are slim.
May have to collar one and see :0

I have heard of a couple of griz taken this year. Gotta go green. Where it is green I mean.
Looks like you had some fun and R and R too.
