Thought I would post these. Happened in 2004, end of April on the connector just coming down the hill to 97, just past the tourist information booth.
After dark and we were clipping along at about 100k. I saw the fisrt bear, just the shadow of a rear end hauling across the Coq full tilt. I turned to say to my husband, " did you see that bear" when we plowed into the second one.
Poor hubby, who was driving, said WTF was that. Had to pull over in the pitch dark as the fender was crammed into the front wheel. Didn't know where the bear was, if it was dead or wounded. No flashlight. Pulled the fender out by hand enough to drive and didn't really get a good look at the car until we arrived and his Mom's about 15 minutes later. Called the police as we were worried there may be a very large dead bear on the highway which could flip a car. They went up with 2 cruisers and search lights and couldn't find it but they figured with the amount of damage to our car it probably wouldn't live for long.
Thanks goodness the airbags didn't deploy, I guess we didn't hit it square enough in the front of the car.
Anyways the car was a write off! Here's some pics.

You can see the paw print in the drivers door where the bear straight armed the car.

In this photo is a gouge through the paint and metal that we think is from one of the bears canines.

He continued across the Coq. I guess as the mounties couldn't find him on the road. However, where it happened there are those very high ( wildlife) fences, yeah right. So I don't know if the bear got around them or not.

He did run into us. Hit with the left front corner and did a pit maneauver spin taking out the whole front quarter panel and punching the driver's door so far in that we couldn't open it.

I hit a bear a few years ago when I was riding shotgun with my uncle when we were low bedding. It felt like we ran that Kenworth into a damn Brick wall. Tough SOB's.

Brings back BAD memories!!! I hit a cub at night once after it had been hit by an 18 wheeler and a pick up. I was driving a Dodge Coronet 440RT at about 100km. scared the living daylights outta me cause I thought it was a child for some reason... nearly puked! Ran back to the scene to learn that it was a previously struck bear, took one look at the cub and said "where is momma?" LOL Everyone RAN back to there vehicles!

Yes, I can relate to " hitting a brick wall" luckily there was no one in the other lane cause it pushed us have way into it. Felt like we hit a big rock!

By the look of the foot print I believe that was a Kong Fu bear. :D
