Just got back from a long day in our favorite spot in the hills above the Coq. Saw a few deer, 2 moose and not one sign of bear. No scat, nothing?? Then we spotted this guy high on a hill feeding in a cut block. Not huge, but not light either.

Thats a nice coat, a few springs back we spotted a coloured bear like that off the coq. Coincidence? I think not. You shot our bear man! just kiddn, congrats. But it still could technically be the bear we saw. :)

Nice looking hide.
It looks like the same genetics as the bear in your avatar, same general area?

We were just talking yesterday about that. 4 out of 5 bears we've seen in that area have been brown to some degree. Only 1 black.

Within 1km. This guy is a little shorter than mine but the hide is much thicker.

Probably just came out of hibernation, hence the heavy coat.
Probably 1 or 2 years younger than your bear, and possibly the same blood line.
Kinda cool.:-P

Nice bear .... I saw one that color up there last fall just off the highway (north side) around Mine Creek .... I wonder if thats the bear ??? lol

How was the snow up there ? I am heading up to Murray lake this coming weekend to do a little camping and fishing with the family, but I am wondering if there will still be snow up there ? or if the ice is even off the lake yet ??

SGC, you won't be fishing Murray any time soon?? The Coq Lakes is still frozen SOLID and with Murray having at least 500' alt difference it wont be melted yet. I hope Ex-Bc Guide has a good story to report, I hear he was in that general area for the weekend.

The Kane valley lakes are open and were being fished yesterday. That said it did snow on us yesterday for about 10 min, up near Ricky lake!!

Is Murry Lake where the cabins are on Murry-Maka FSR? I'm pretty sure it is thawed. Ask Dutchie if he remembers for sure.
