Did no one see the news this morn. I thought for sure someone would have posted it. It was found by a girl hiking on a main trail by the look of things. Skinned, pile of meat with the paws a gall bladder taken. Saw it on global. Is there allready a thread on this ? Am I missing something ? I can't find the link anywhere on global

I did see it but didn't have time to post it. All I saw was a ticket across the screen with few details. I too wasn't able to find anythjing online. Must have been a busy day in the news or it would have been the top story. One that makes us look bad???

I saw the news storiy and they said poacher and not hunter. It was pretty obvious it was a poacher from the fact they only took the paws and gall bladder from the bear and left the hide and meat.

I too was happy that they explained it as a poacher and not a hunter.

As much as we like to rag on the media when they call poachers hunters, this is a good opportunity to give them an Attaboy....

I bet they respond quite well to it.

Without us legal bear hunters out there being eyes and ears, I'm sure poaching would be more widespread than it is now.
Having a "presence" out there is important.

Is this area open to hunting at all???(not familiar with the area)

True

Sumas Mtn is Bow only - no firearms period. Most of Sumas Mtn is now in the City of Abbotsford [ Jan. 01 09]

Having said that though, there are many reports of shots fired in the night, or day, and parts of the mountain go all the way down to the Fraser River- very remote. So the CO's have alot of territory to cover. Lots of Bears deer and Cougar up there.

Last spring a guy coming home at 0200 a.m. slammed into a 300 lb Blackie on North parallel road [ near the Vedder] in a Ford Focus. The Bear died a few meters away, and the Focus was absolutely demolished. So ya, lots of Bears up there.

The thick bush also assists with sound cover for any shot.

I didn't see the story on Sumas Mtn, but did any one hear the traffic reports thia morning of the Blackie in the median at 200th on the freeway ?

Damn I missed that one, I would have helped the commute if they'd asked :roll:

i also watched the news the other night.. But here something i don't understand.. If the person is only going for the paws and the bladder, whats the point skinning the whole bear?? The news footage clearly show the bear was skinned left in one pile and the hide in the other....

Maybe they got spooked and grabbed the money parts and ran.

Hopefully this is true and the bear was not poached.

Hey I read this to. Was just going to post it and then found yours. Looks like the CO checked it all out and it was in fact legal.

Yah, I just read the story in the newspaper, a nature lover found a legally harvested black bear carcass on sumas mountain while on a walk and called the cops. Everything was legal.
