Well ....pulled all the foot traps yesterday.( only one cyote caught).wich means wolf trapping is officially over for for me and the wolves of Pemberton/Whistler. Our club deer cam showed the wolves are just not going back and forth on the migration trail , wich makes me think they are staying with the initial surge of migrating deer that headed up valley last couple weeks....also is a pain in the butt driving all the way up there every three days to check now that I'm back at work.
Sadly , our deer counter has showed yet another low count for a 3 yr + decline in #'s . Unfortunately the deer #'s HAVE TO go down due to absolutely minimal to zero predator controling going on here for a VERY long time until I started up 3 seasons ago....I also had a feeling I was 'too late' this yr due to the overwelming amount of wolf sign and sightings at many different areas.
I am also very curious of how many new trappers may have got into it this yr due to the trapping thread?????........and how many plan on doing something about dense wolf populations in their own areas this winter???
If I am to continue chasing them down this coming season I am going to have to look for help in funding somehow , anyone have ideas please let me know...its getting expensive and very hard doing it all alone.
total count for me was 9 wolves and 9 cyotes..surpassing my last yrs record catch of 7 wolves.......I think I would need to get at least 20 a season for a few seasons in a row to turn things around up here......I now have the knowlege , just need PROPER bait and have it in place by Nov 30...anyone have bait suggestions please let me know!....I was hoping to maybe go to a slaughter house for a truck load of stuff??...dont know if they have waste??...or it all gets used??
Anyway...future input to help the cause is appreciated....hope to see trapper #'s going up on here...
would also be interesting to have anyone that caught or shot a wolf in '08/09 to post the #'s on here as well and say what region and say how much over all wolf sign was seen in your area.
This topic is probably far from most guy's minds this time of yr...but the wolves havent stopped.......it might be beneficial to keep the interest lit this time of yr ?...make for some good early planning for this yr
