Well ....pulled all the foot traps yesterday.( only one cyote caught).wich means wolf trapping is officially over for for me and the wolves of Pemberton/Whistler. Our club deer cam showed the wolves are just not going back and forth on the migration trail , wich makes me think they are staying with the initial surge of migrating deer that headed up valley last couple weeks....also is a pain in the butt driving all the way up there every three days to check now that I'm back at work.
Sadly , our deer counter has showed yet another low count for a 3 yr + decline in #'s . Unfortunately the deer #'s HAVE TO go down due to absolutely minimal to zero predator controling going on here for a VERY long time until I started up 3 seasons ago....I also had a feeling I was 'too late' this yr due to the overwelming amount of wolf sign and sightings at many different areas.
I am also very curious of how many new trappers may have got into it this yr due to the trapping thread?????........and how many plan on doing something about dense wolf populations in their own areas this winter???

If I am to continue chasing them down this coming season I am going to have to look for help in funding somehow , anyone have ideas please let me know...its getting expensive and very hard doing it all alone.

total count for me was 9 wolves and 9 cyotes..surpassing my last yrs record catch of 7 wolves.......I think I would need to get at least 20 a season for a few seasons in a row to turn things around up here......I now have the knowlege , just need PROPER bait and have it in place by Nov 30...anyone have bait suggestions please let me know!....I was hoping to maybe go to a slaughter house for a truck load of stuff??...dont know if they have waste??...or it all gets used??

Anyway...future input to help the cause is appreciated....hope to see trapper #'s going up on here...

would also be interesting to have anyone that caught or shot a wolf in '08/09 to post the #'s on here as well and say what region and say how much over all wolf sign was seen in your area.

This topic is probably far from most guy's minds this time of yr...but the wolves havent stopped.......it might be beneficial to keep the interest lit this time of yr ?...make for some good early planning for this yr

sometimes in the fall guys gotta throw out freezer burnt meat to make room for the new stuff also fraser valley auctions in langley often has stuff come through cheap I have seen 400lb+ breeder boars go for 10 bucks cause the meat is so rancid. The late fall is the cheapest there as the farmers dont want to feed stuff through the winter, just a thought, thanks for all the pics and stories this winter

My buddy has a dairy farm. He shoots on average 1-2 cows per month and shoots all bulls at birth.
Not really a way to store them for you to make a trip worth while though??

If I can find the time this winter I'll be using cow quarters.

I just finished my trapper course yesterday. Since the thread was started I've wanted to do the same thing. Now just have to find a place to go about it. Thanks to pg66 for the great thread.

Sounds good to me!........I am thinkng if we can get a FULL truck load of bait , I would like to dump a whole load in the Ryan , Soo , Mckenzie Basin and up at your end. I would like to keep adding a truck load each month , get them feeding on it , keep feeding them ..wait till maybe late Jan , early Feb and do one big snare off at each spot....by then there should be trails hammered down and we could place a tonne of snares in a 200yrd perimeter of the kill sights...I think this would do it nicely...kinda like one big ,massive sweep....then after that go at it as usual and pick a few more off as the season progress's.....
Maybe if a couple are worth keeping it might be an idea to raffle a couple big ones off for trapping funds??....

Thanks very much Steve and others that where involved with your trap line thread etc.

It was a very good learning experience on your thread for all that are interested in getting into trapping.

I know I learned a big bunch from your posts and pic on this trapping thread.

I just hope you can continue the same one this fall or start a new thread on wolf trapping for the 2009 ,2010 year ,http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gifhttp://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gifhttp://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gifhttp://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gifhttp://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gifhttp://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon6.gif http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif.

Proguide, thanks for your other thread, it was excellent! really made me want to take the trapping course, and willl keep an eye out for it being offered! it would be wonderfull if you could condense the trapping thread into one long post, a sort of how-to and synopsis of your season...

and if anyone know of the trapping course being offered on the North Island, drop me a PM!

and i second hunter1947.... looking forward to the 09-10 thread!

Congrats on an all time high, good for you for giving back to a sport that you respect and appreciate. I am sure you have inspired a lot of people to become trappers, and I know I am one of them. Great job!

I'm thinking right at the end of deer season here...Nov 30..then can still use a truck to get the initial bait piles going....would be cool to have a MAJOR truck load at each site....the traffic would be nuts after a couple months....also just got word from Cache Crk Vet that he could line up a bunch of cows at a time...would take my horse trailer over , fill it like cord wood and the truck box..lol...will deffinitely take EVERYTHING you can muster up!!....this should be good this yr !!...sounds like our local club is going to give some support this winter as well !:cool:
