Awesome job, I really like the first pic of the boar in the dead pine. Its a great shot!
How long did it take you to train your dogs to tree bears?

Most dogs will chase bears just from instict, catching them and making them tree consistantly is the trick.Training the hounds to bay when they smell a bear takes much more training as you must be sure that they are not barking at the smell of a deer, elk, rabbit moose etc. the two pups on the weekend started there traning on a bear they could see with a little help from mom. By bear three they ran this one one their own on scent alone until they jumped the bear.Fast learners I guess? If I can put up 30 or 40 bears this spring the pups should be seasoned bear dogs by the end.

Looking good Doug. How let do ya turn out at in your neck of the woods? I am always hesitant to let out to late in wolf country(BC) as for overnighters.

This time of year 7:30 is about the latest I turn the hounds loose. Those to pups and their mother really run to catch so the races tend to be short(knock on wood) Although last wednsday I turned out at 7:00 and ended up carrying Cookie out at 10:00 and picking up my bl&tan at 12:30 after running in to a mean bear that was scared of hieghts. The Garmin is top notch and gives you piece of mind that you can get to the tree in time.
