Well, this is my early Sept mulie, now after 60 days its been officially scored. So, I'd like to hear what everybody is saying. I personally was out by 10" on its score when I estimated it in the field :oops:

What does everybody say? I'll post the official score in a couple of days.

Did you estimate 10" too high, or 10" too low? I'm guessing 10" too high as that usually seems to be the way it goes unfortunately. When you say "in the field" do you mean before or after you arrowed him?

Kirby

In the field before the arrow hit.

I would say around 170 but its hard to know just from a pic.

I would give it a gross of about 184. He's got decent width, and probably had few deductions.

I'm going with 165. Although there is some thickness to the horn which might bump it up.

Great buck. Way to go.

I will go with 170 but it is tough to say by only looking at a pic.

I'm going out on the limb for bonus marks Kirby. See how we do.;)

All rounded off in full inches:

Inside spread = 25

RMB = 24 LMB = 27

RG1 = 3 1/8 LG1 = 3 4/8
RG2 = 12 LG2 = 12
RG3 = 11 LG3 = 9
RG4 = 6 LG4 = 7
32 1/8 31 4/8

RH1 = 5 LH1 = 5
RH2 = 4 LH2 = 5
RH3 = 3 LH3 = 4
RH4 = 3 LH4 = 3
15 17

RE1 = 1

Gross = 172 5/8 - 9 3/8 deductions

Net = 163 2/8 +/- 3" :-o

I thought 180 was the minimum?

Kirby

Brother jack, The British Columbia min is 175" net for typical mule deer. For Boone and Crockett its 180 for awards, 190 for all time.

Well, I'll post up now, the closest guess was damn close. I guessed him Grossing in low 170's, netting high 160's, however, I was 10" out, and he went 183 5/8 gross, and 178 7/8 net.

Thats great Kirby, I imagine you were quite pleasantly surprised when you got a closer look at him then huh.

Kirby
11-21-2005, 04:42 PM
Ya, I was pretty happy, even when he was on the ground I didn't think he would gross that high, I was still saying low 170's, I had set my min at 170 gross this year, and was pretty happy with the buck. It wasn't until the guy handed me the official score that I realised it was that nice, I wasn't sure he had added it up right.

:oops:... Hmmm, then the pic was more deceiving than I thought. Where'd I go drastically wrong Kirby?

Kirby
11-21-2005, 09:10 PM
Freshtracks, the pic is hard to judge, his head is tipped back a bit, so that his G-2, G-3 look shorter than they are. I think I mis-judged his M-1, M-2, and didn't count the brows enough, his G-1's are 9" together.

9" is great G-1's ... let me know his I/S and main beams. I was either of 10 off there or in the G2 lengths. 4 3/4 deductions is sweet too.

Thanx Kirby ... interesting to see how I was out. Light on the mass, short on tine length, yet a little generous on I/S and MB's. But it's all just # RIGHT.:tongue:

One heck of a buck taken with a bow Kirby.:biggrin:

Looks like Youngfellla pretty well nailed it, being off by 3/8 of an inch. Not bad for a youngfella.:grin:
