That's in pretty darn good shape. I've had 200+ inch sheds chewed way worse than that. Count your lucky stars it is more than just a base. ;) Good luck matchin' it up. Chewed or not, it still is a great find.

I like finding really old sheds, yes have been chewed, and they have green and other red colored "patina" on them, and these colors polish up very nicely :)

I think you should make it into a fancy coin holder. Definetly time for you to design another shed hunter t-shirt, dream on one side night mare on the other.

Pretty nice shed, what did it measure???
Ive been very lucky this year, of all the freshies Ive scouped only 1 has had any chews so far!
I even picked up the match, to a side from 2 years ago, still in mint shape, no chews!

That can be repaired so you'd have to look real close to notice anything!

That shed measures 104"???? If your right that would be a 230+inch buck, not a 200". It would be nice to hear, all the measurements as It doesnt look that big in the pic! Must be a very small phone!

dana

104? Hmmm, I ain't seeing that either. Should have a whack of trash to get 104. All I'm seeing is a couple cheaters for extras. Show us some pics of you holding your sheds so we can get a size comparison.

Mark,
It is always a mystery when just one side is found eh? Doubling the shed and estimating inside spread seems logical, but unless you were watching the buck on the hoof and know exactly what he looks like from video, it is really hard to estimate the 'what if' score with just one side. A lot of times bucks grow some trash on one side and are clean on the other. You find a little bit of trash, you'll jump to the conclusion he's a 230 buck. The only way to speculate is if there is a ton of trash on the side you found. Very rarely do big NT's trash out strongly on the one side and not the other. I've seen a few though, so you can never guess right without that match.

I said 104 gross. change to 92 with half of a 24 in. inside spread = 104 that is how i did it. LOL:smile:

Shed Hunter,
In true Shedder Lingo, no one ever does that. When you say how big a single is, just say how big the single is. Adding air for estimated inside spread is only done when you have a matched set. ;) And for the most part, unless it is a very flat laying buck, that air will be less than the longest mainbeam.

Shed Hunter. Regardless of the pundits that are giving advice on the "technicalities" of how to properly score a shed antler I say congrats to you. You are posting up some very nice finds that show you are out there pounding the hills and coming up with success. Your posts are a welcome diversion to the lull in hunting of antlered game.

Keep up the good work! I for one am enjoying your posts.

I've been an avid shed hunter for over 25 years. Have picked up several thousand sheds over that time. First time I've ever seen someone add air to a single. Post your scoring technique on the NASHC forums and see if you get laughed off the site.

You can do what you wish, but if you claim something to be bigger than it actually is, there are many that know the difference and will call ya on it. It would be best to just post your pics and keep your fancy scoring to yourself. ;)

No-one was busting his balls, simply questioning how he got a score that seemed unrealistic!
Who's guilty??? Of what??
No-ones kicked my ass at the shed game so far this year! :-)

Mark,
No one's kicked your ass that you know of anyways. ;) Some of us don't post up our finds until the season is done. Better to keep the suspense going that way. Heck, some of us still haven't posted up the bucks killed during the 2008 season. :)

Heres another angle on the Gem! A tape wouldnt do him any justice, but this shed is heavy duty, with some very cool charactor junk!
I searched for hours, but I feel the mate is burried deep under the snow...I will return to find it!

http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/medium/IMGA0239.JPG (http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/showphoto.php?photo=12947&size=big&cat=recent&limit=recent)

I didnt get an ATL as I had to scale over an edge of a cliff to retrieve this sucker. Funny part is I walked within 20 feet of it in hunting season with no snow, and found it yesterday sticking out of 2 feet????
It tapes out at 84" typical with 8" of extras for a whopping 92", A 205-210" grossing buck, my best shed ever!!!!!

http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/medium/IMGA0231.JPG (http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/showphoto.php?photo=12948&size=big&cat=recent&limit=recent)

Now immediately this shed looked very familiar to me, I called up buddy on my way home, and stopped by to confirm my thoughts.....

http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/medium/IMGA0237.JPG (http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/showphoto.php?photo=12949&size=big&cat=recent&limit=recent)

Heres the history, buddy found the brown shed on the right 4 years ago on the very same ridge. Another buddy has the match to that one also. Back then it had a 190 plus mainframe with about 10" of lil extras, yes a 200" gross buck. would of net scored about 180 as a typical.

That year, the buck was seen several times and missed by 2 archers!

They thought the buck was long gone, now I find his antler about 2 years old I figure. Hes lost a lil length, gained a lil mass, as well a couple extra points, overall 2" larger. We can only hope hes still roaming the hills!
OK im done now, must find more!
Some of us have good memories!

Mark,
You've shown your cards too early. A good player always keeps them close to his chest. You should have learned by now that I don't post and tell until the season is done. Still another month and a half at least for me. Guess you'll just have to wait. Past history shows I ain't BSing when it comes to sheds. I have a whack of legit 100+ inch sheds in my collection to prove I am King of this game.

I think youve missed the point! What i did was, assume the match would measure the same & estimate the air, to get an idea of what a buck would score.
What shed hunter did was estimate the air, spit it in half, then add it to the shed score???? Something Dana nor I have ever heard of before, so we asked for clarification!
Big diff!
