Made it out last night for about 20mins :frown:(got a call that my daughter was sick)...but immediatley found the bear that I was looking to arrow last year.

It's usually the biggest bear that gets the best feeding areas but this bear is no longer temporary King of the Mountain.

http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/Billy_and_Bear.jpg (http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/showphoto.php?photo=13765)

I got some great footage on my video cam:cool: but I can't upload the videos as the program file size makes my computer crash(20 GB's)...so I took a little video with my digital still camera.
This billy continued to walk to within 4 yds of this bear:cool: with his head down and all puffed-up and stiff-legged. He sloooowly turned and walked away with his back to the bear showing the bear that he was not worried about getting eaten. The bear was not worried but slowly fed away giving this billy and his buddy the best feeding area.

Hoping to make a play on him with the bow today.....if I can get some help.;)

Is it just me, or does that goat make the bear look small?? Or is it a giant goat???
Ill have to head up there and check them out for myself!

Bear looks awesome in the second footage.
Still too small for me, and WAY too much work to retrieve him!

It is a MONSTER goat and he's packing a thick winter coat.
When the bear turned he did look better.

Should have stayed home.
Had him at 31 yds in his bed but luckily he busted me. I think mark was right. Don't think he's all that big. Porkey for sure and a gorgeous coat...but not worth it.......especially when you lose wallet and all your arrows fall out of your quiver:cry:(luckilly on the pack out)

Man, I'm beat.........misery slippers in 2 1/2' of snow on steep hills is not for someone out of shape:oops:.

Thanks again F/D!

I've been thinking about it all day...glad to finally hear the outcome. Sounds like it worked out OK all things considered. Hope you found your wallet....or is that for another day? Greasy snow doesn't sound like it was fun.

Was he in the timber where he was bedded or on the open slope?

How was the stalk? Fairly straightforward or not? Awesome that you got to 31 yards. Do you think he pegged you or did the wind swirl on ya?

Gotta say, that's the first time I've ever talked someone to within 30 yards of a bear with a cell phone! A good stalk, but crunchy fir branches saved SSS a really miserable pack out.

I think SSS will sleep really well tonight after that hike!

This means the bridge is still in place ?

Bridge is still there but the water is still low so I just rock-hopped.

Funny.....the bear was bedded down chewing on some old moose bones......just like a dog.
In the last three yrs I've seen two other bears chewing on those same set of bones.

JJ-I stepped on stick and saw him turn his head but I was behind a couple of big fir trees so he put his head back down. Could not really move any close at that point. Eventually, he got nervous and sat up on all fours and looked my way.

From now on I'll think I'll stick to fair chase ditch bears:rolleyes:.

~10 minutes(enough to make me late for work). This is the first one that I've had burried so I had to rack my memory to figure out how to get him out.

Tried the hot needle. Didn't work.

Woke up my wife to get her to try the floss thing. Didn't work.

Just pulled on him with tweezers and then put a hot needle on his head. Came out with a piece of me still in his chompers.

I hate ticks!!

I thought that tick would have died of the stench after that hike. 8)

Haven't found any on me, and have all my gear in the boiler room, away from the hound. Hopefully lying around in 2' of snow kept me out of the tick zone!

LOL... Gives you a sense of your own mortality when a decent size bear is looking at you from 30 yards and you're standing there with a sharp stick in your hands.

Nothing like that few seconds after the arrow hits and the bear is deciding between fight or flight!!

Well, not as exciting as having a tick in your armpit, but close.

When I got in tight there was one thing that told me the bear wasn't big enough.....he was missing the "intimidation factor". He had a "curious look" about him.

If I was more prepared I should have disguised myself as a "Trojan Billy Goat". Probably could haved walked up to within 5 yds of him:grin:.

Sounds like the perfect place to "train" I recommend doing at least 2 stalks a week for the remainder of bear season.

I'll have to look at it as a wallet and arrow retrieval program.

If I do that my fitness level may peak a little too early for sheep season.

I miss the good ole days when youth could make up for being young and dumb.
Being old and dumb is just plain.........dumb..........and painful:roll:

I heard the MOE is going to re-define the packer regulations so independant packers can set up in the north in Reg. 6 and 7 again to get resident hunters into the mountains because the GO's who hold it aren't willing to take residents in under the licence. :-D

Not worth starting a new thread over...but I made it up last night to see if any new bears had moved into my fav area. Didn't even pack the bow or rifle as I figured it would just be an evening of window shopping.

Saw the same old bear(in a waaaaaay better spot).....and saw this 4x3 "thing".

http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/May_20_2009_005.jpg (http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/showphoto.php?photo=13921)

Not sure if it's an antlered doe or a weird(injured) buck. The other deer it was hanging with were all bucks.

No new bears showed up so I hopped on the bike and hit another glassing area. I had just got to the spot where I park and noticed a bear bedded about 150yds below me.
http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/May_20_2009_007.jpg (http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/showphoto.php?photo=13922)
Eventually he stood up and gave me a number of "dancing bear shots" and he had a goooooood scratch on a power pole. Got some cool video footage:cool: so hopefully I'll figure how to download it without crashing my computer.
He had a big white "V" on his chest making him a decent bow bear. Not super big but he's fairly solid.
Also saw 4 other bears including one that caught my att'n.

Was a pretty good evening...minus the Canucks loss.:-?

Might pop up there tonight....but this time I think I'll bring the bow.
