Some hunters go out and 'hope' to bag ' something'...and some already KNOW who the potential 'victim' is and are only after that one goal.. if you already know , what is it and how big??..how many times ya seen it??
This spring I'm after a blacky that easily goes over 8ft who a few of us have seen numerous times over the last 3 yrs..( got a pic of him 3 minutes before I checked my trail cam last spring , and missed him with an arrow).then this Aug I'm looking for a ram that was 7yrs and around 164B&C last yr...then this fall I'm REALLY hoping to get a b-tail who is over 160B&C..( if he's still alive , got a pic of him 2 yrs ago)...

Anyone else?...would be cool to have an early 'hit list' mentioned now , and see who pulled it off later with pics !!

I have a blackie in mind that likes to feed in barley fields right alone the edge of the forest. Can't wait to catch him with his head down and the wind in the right direction.

One bear this spring will be any mid sized black bear that lives close to where I live there are way too many bears here and the population needs to be thinned out.

There are at least two other bears that I want to find one is the Blackie that BCbillies and I have seen twice who left tracks just under 7 " across potentially an 8 foot bear but we haven't seen him for about 5 years now so maybe one of his sons might be around.

The second bear is a brown phase blackie that has to be at least a 7 footer would love to find him

A few of us are going to go out this spring so hopefully one of us connects on either of the two bigger bears.

Well being that oct is a no go for hunting this season for me my too do list is short. I hoping a spring blackie in the 6 1/2 feet mark then back pack trip in early sept for mulie deer and if I can get out this summer scouting for goats in squamish may do a few days in sept trying to tag one of them and if all good come november rutting mule deer and late november early dec a big black tail out of a certon area. this may all change depending what the LEH gods give me LOL

BULL ELK!! #1 Top priority!! Nothing else matters!! I'll shoot a blackie this spring just cause I want some pepperoni for the summer, plus I am trying out the TSX's for the first time, so I need to see em kill a critter before I head in for elk. Moosinaroundsoontobeelkinaround.

For my boy and me, we've got a big ol' blackie that has given us the slip 2 years in a row. He's a smart bugger that seems to know how to play the wind to his advantage. He's definately a shooter, 6'8" to 7'. Hoping we can end the dance this year. :)

This is my primary fall project, I am certain he's still alive. Glassing over the summer months will allow me to determine if he's there or not.
He'll likely be upper 120"s this year, possibly break the 130" mark, an absolute PIG for an Island blacktail especially since he lives above 3,500' (ain't no farm buck!)

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f314/BlacktailStalker/th_ShedhuntApril709024.jpg (http://s50.photobucket.com/albums/f314/BlacktailStalker/?action=view&current=ShedhuntApril709024.jpg)

I hope to take ball dragger of a big blackie we saw last year with the bow or film hunter 1947 take him this spring (my little lady wants a rug, how cool is that!)

A rocky mtn elk like every year.

Possibly a late season mulie and/or whitetail hunt, never taken either worth mounting.

The hope of a roosevelt draw is always there but not something I expect.
Not sure I'll apply for anything else yet...

In the meantime relentless bear hounding and cats on the Island here.

I think he's going forward. Found his previous 2 years sheds and they were all smaller.
Almost certain this past year (havent found yet) and this year (last chance!?) will be his prime.
Enough hope to keep me focused anyways !!!

And absolutely a trail cam will be spending the summer up there with lithium batteries

One day I'll try for some of those honker coastals you are lucky enough to pursue over there !

120ish blacktail was in one of my spots last fall during the rut when I was up chasing mulies.:frown: And it sounds like I won't be after the mulies until late Nov in reg.5 this year. Will be spending sometime on him before venturing up north for the elusive 180+ Mulies;-)

I don't like to shoot what I don't eat ,there is this one black bear that I saw last year ,he come out of the bottom timber about 200 yards below me when I was set up for an evening hunt.

I did not have a bear tag as well if I did he would be a dead bear.

I did not have my camera with me that evening but made sure I had it for the next evening.

He came out way down at the other end of the slash the next night it was over 1000 yards out I took a pic of him and there was an average bear about 100 yards from him.

This average black was around 5 feet long and the big guy was twice his size ,I'm guessing around 7,1/2 footer ,i have bought a tag for bear this year and I will try to get him this spring as soon as the snow is receded.

I'm sure this bear will make the B&C club.

My wish list starts with a nice bull elk in sept., combined with a quality alpine mulie. I would also like to see my wife get her first Island Blacktail, and to see my dad get a nice 6pt bull elk this year. Other than that just more memories for the year.

Here is a pic of the big boar from last Nov ,he is the one to your right ,the other bear on your left walked past me at about 100 yards earlier.

This smaller bear was around 5 feet long you can see the difference in size my guess is the one in the pic on your right is a good two feet or longer .

I would love to share it....if I had it!...I showed 2 people here the pics...was erasing the crap photos of the card , hit ' deltete all' by accident:cry::cry:....I have his shed from 3 yrs ago though.....

I cant say 'absolutely' for 'sure' the shed is the buck I got a photo of...the one in the pic seemed to possibly 'fan out' wider than this buck..this shed with a conservative 16" inside width would have went 157" with a matching side..the big buck I shot there 2 yrs ago would have went 160" if he had the matching upper fork on both sides( this shed 'side' is the 3 point side of the big buck I shot)....who know's....the shed and the pic were maybe 400yrds apart...found the large bucks in this spot winter where they rut while the rest of the deer head to lower elevations.
I'm going to wait another week or so before I attempt to find some sheds there...still wayy too much snow up there.

As for me, my daughter seems pretty determined to shoot a buck this year so I'll get her out as much as possible.I've seen a big old buck the last 2 years in June and July.He was a 5x4 two years ago,and last year he was a 5x3.The 5 side was awesome and the other a huge fork with brow.He disappeared in late July both years.I'll look hard for him this summer.
I'm going after Stone sheep and I'll take a Goat tag along.A latter deer hunt to the Peace I hope.

I myself have a great year planned. This Spring the girlfriend is planning on taking her first Black Bear. So as soon as she gets one then I'll get my chance. Then a buddy and I are going for a Ram. Late August I plan on going for a Goat with my bow. Girlfriend also wants a goat but She'll have to draw a tag first. I assume she will, She seems to have the LEH Luck. Going for Moose in October with Bow. I assume the girlfriend will want one of those too!! We have to fill more than one freezer so we will be busy. There are memories to be made!!

Hey steve how did your trip go over at NZ ,got any pic of any game animals when you where there ???.
It sucked ass !!..lol...I'll put up pics some time when I get enregetic..still jet lagged.
I hunted with some locals who's hunting skills werent quite ' honed' yet..and they werent into hunting horns either....the place is messed up for the public. You dont really have a chance at hammering a BIG one unless you go with an outfitter on a private ranch. Meat prices in Europe drove it to around $9.00 a lb..so the heli 'cullers' have been hitting it hard...you can hunt in NZ yr round , shoot all night or day at anything that moves...combo this with the heli's shooting the shit out of the bachelor groups in the spring ( and the rest of the yr)from the air = some terrified animals. The jungle they are hiding in is the equelivant of still hunting an 8ft deep patch of island salal.I was finding 00buck shot up on the chamois ridges...( from the heli guys)...some local hunting groups are trying to get things changed...read some articles on it , sad state.
I also met a heli pilot who was guideing some rich americans and mexicans...they had been flying ALL day for 2 days , saw 2 deer....now THAT gave me some ecouragement!!...lol...the guy's I was with shot one female deer last yr after hunting for 4 months....its deffinitely 'different' down there....all our hunting laws are pretty well broken down there legally...you can drink and drive , shoot out the window of a moving vehicle with a rifle ( while drinking a beer) and as well have silencers...so...if you really want a fair chase LARGE red , I would suggest Argentina or Europe...unless you want to hunt a fenced private property with ' managed' animals.

[quote=proguide66;443840]..and some already KNOW who the potential 'victim' is

Last year a month before the season opened(5-03) we saw this very large buck. Our guess-well over 200 lbs. The antlers were large and wide & still in velvet. He was eating the green grass right where I would normally park my camper (Y-camp-one of our favourite camps). He was a local deer-searched for him up and down the hillsides, tops, watering holes & creeks in Sept., Oct. & Nov. but no signs. This will be the year

Here he was last year

I am really anxious to try and get a ground squirrel with my 22-250, one in particular has been eluding me for the last three years. If that fails the next trip planned will be for a stones sheep. The hike in off the highway may kill me though as it takes close to two days. Plan on hiking in a couple of days before the season to try and set up on the ram of my dreams before the outfitter shows up.
