Let's see your spring bears from years past. Favorite methods, wisdom, terrain to target etc. Tasty recipes too.

Here is my first spring bear... 6' 3" w/ 19" skull. Sorry about the shoddy camera man.

Spring Blackie Video (http://www.bchuntingblog.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=random&cat=7&pos=-80) - 7mm 175 grn federal shock.

Decent 6' Blackie (http://www.bchuntingblog.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=random&cat=7&pos=-89) - Got real close to this one, you'll see at the end.

Two Blackies Fighting (http://www.bchuntingblog.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=7&pos=5) - These guys go at it for a few minutes, then fall off the log.

Enjoy...

It is a Norinco M14. It has been modified from the original and is headspaced for .308win. It shoots very nice and I plan to use it again this spring. I like the challenge of using irons for the bears since if I miss, it doesnt hurt as much as missing a big buck and also its more fun as you get to stalk and creep up close for closer shot, although with this rifle, I can easily hit 300 yrds.

This bear I shot back in the 70ties ,it was 6 foot 5 inches long and the skull scored 18,15/16.

I shot back in at the top end of the Roberson River in the Cowichan area.

Big bears have big ears that look small on a big head. Small bears have big ears that look big on a small head.

Cool rifle & nice bear. Is that (20 round?)magazine legal in Canada?

You can legally have a 50 or 100 round magazine in Canada, as long as it's pinned to 5 rounds-for a semi auto centerfire. ;)

With the years that I've spent hunting, I'm almost ashamed to say that I've never gone bear hunting. BUT, THIS IS WILL BE DIFFERENT!!! Any advise the pros could give this joe....??

My boy was 10 for that one, he was using my ruger m77 chambered in 6mm rem. 85 grain barnes. It was his first stalk, about 400 yards or so then waited for it to turn broad side and put 1 shot through the ribs at about 90-120 yards.

Here is the pics of the big black we took a few years ago. We were hunting in a log block when we spot a large boar feeding across the block about 200 yards away. We decide to make a stalk, when we get about 40 yards away (no range finder) we both take a shot and both miss. We watch as he walks away like we are not even there. We pick up our arrows and see him feeding about 80 yards away this time. We move in to about 30 yards and both shoot again and both miss, one over one under and he walks away again. We scurry up the skid trail we were on when we spotted him, we can not see him but can see the brush moving. We are waiting and the bear appears right in front of us at 8 yards this time. I let a arrow fly right in the middle of his chest, we are so close we can hear a slup sound as we see the arrow disappear right up to the fletching. The boar didn't move blink or nothing, I look at my buddy he is standing at full draw, I tell him shoot him hit him or something. As the bear is turnning to walk away we see the arrow hit him in the head. We watch him walk away and go down. By this time it is getting low light, we decide to get the truck that is about a mile away. When we return is is very dark and we move in to where we last seen him but can not tell where he is. We look for rocks and throw rocks at some dark spots until we hit him and see movment, thats when we backed off and called it a night. When we returned in the morning he was laying right where we had last seem movment. I didn't get any as they lay pics, but here is some pics from later.

Here is the big boar I shot last spring. It measured 6'11" nose to tail before tanning, and after it was 6'9". He was a tough old boar, and a tough one to load as well.
