many pics to come so keep posted
well we arrived at 1130pm Wednesday to find that the road was in bad shape..we had to disconnect the tent trailer and turn it around by hand so Ex BC Guide could turn around.
We found a camp spot a short distance down and set everything up until late so we could have a good days hunt the following morning.
Thursday: Ex and I woke up early to get to this area where i've seen deer before..but on the way down we caught up to hunters that said that they've been there since Saturday with no bucks being seen over 3x3! We head out and hike our butts off! while we were out on a range we saw 5 Mnt sheep...we walked ridges over mnt's upon mnt's! Ex then spots a huge buck 80-100yards off and motions me to stop and no move..its a HUGE buck with a tonne of trash. Ex while setting up for the shot he spooks the bucks and its GONE! While making it back to the truck a group of hunters drive up with a 3x4, huge/long body buck. When we got back to camp Ex's dad shares his day with seeing a few does around camp. Later that evening Ex and I split up around camp and i run into a 2x2 and a doe. I decide not to pull the trigger and try to walk up on him to get a picture. He takes off fast, no picture! Ex sees a few does
Friday: We start off again bright and early back to the area where deer tend to be seen... This time Ex and his dad partner up and I head out on my own and meet up with them at around noon. I see 5-6 does and a small buck running off. Ex and his dad see a small herd off deer feeding way out. We make a game plan for the next day and decide to return for a hot lunch and to look around camp. That evening Ex sees 6 does, me nothing.
Saturday: Bright and early Ex and i split up planning to talk on the radio and meet up we learn that one radio is dead. So we decide to meet up at a ridge, one the way in I spot a herd of sheep with a nice ram. I try to wrap around them to get some pictures when i spot Ex walking to me..we take a break and a bite and i end up sitting in a catus patch! next my pants are doen around my ankles and Ex is like "what are you doing!" lol. We then walk the ridge over the Fraser looking for deer that my be on out in the open. We walk to a point when i spot some movenment on a open patch. Its two deer and there bucks, one being pretty big the other a tad smaller. There feeding and looking over to their right off and on..we grab a seat in some catus, Ex this time too. We glass and realize thats theres 4 bucks and a few does. Me being hancey want to get over to them right away. But from where we are it looks impossable! theres a huge deep draw with no way over to them in sight. We sit for about 15-20min when we see three does and my buck making there way down to the river. I tell Ex that I'm going to follow the sheep trail down..way down and around!and see if i can get a chance to shoot but first to see if i could even recover him. Ex stay up with the packs and I make my way down with my 30-06 loaded with 165gr Hornadys. After what seemed like forever I can see a steep path down but at first didn't see the deer. I then see the does but no buck, I then see his movements in some trees feeding on leaves so i set out my bipod and aimed for his neck (he's ass end to me with me looking down to him) I shoot and miss! the shot was next to his right side...i was out of breath and tried to steady myself prior. The buck just stood there on high alert looking around...i aim again on his neck and knew the next shot was going to be it...I was steady... I then breathed out paused and fired! DOWN he went! my farthest shot ever, 400 yards. My shot dropped 12 inches, I'm sightened in for 200yards. I made my way down to him and flagged Ex to bring the packs.
