I live on the outskirts of PG, last night a cougar came in and killed my daughters pony within two hundred yards of our house, found the pony this morning with a broken neck and the throat and front cavity ate out. Could see where the cat had lept on several occassions at the other horses as well. I now have one lame horse, four skittish ones and a dead pony. Anyone wanting to take care of this cat please let me know. Jim

That's real crappy Jim, especially for your daughter.

With no season there, I would imagine that not many locals have hounds?:-?

I'm sure the local boys in blue will be able to take care of that cat for you. They dealt with six or seven last winter but havn't heard of any so far this year. Being that it has killed livestock they should respond pretty quickly.

7-9 is open until the 31st. Sorry to hear about your pony, seems like cougars are becoming a problem around here. I don't know anyond with hounds either. Could try calling with a deer distress as Gate did. Where abouts are you?

:-( Sorry Deaddog that is just awful. Thats a nightmare come true for any horse owner, nevermind a youngster.
How old is your daughter and what type the pony?

My daughters are three and six years old, it was a shetland pony that was just perfect, gentle and well trained, she will be hard to replace.

Deaddog ,
I hear you brother , we breed quarter horses and both my daughters have shetland crosses. We had a cougar episode a couple years back , I went into hunt mode and dispatched him about 10 days later. He will come back, thats for certain. Notify your local c.o's and be on the lookout. Sorry I'm not closer to help. I'll keep my eyes open for a pony , I know the good ones are hard to come by , this is very sad news for your girls. PM me with your address , I have a couple girls that would like to penpal up with yours.
Take care and good luck
Rob

Very sorry to hear about your daughter's pony. Hope help arrives and dispatches the problem.

A good and trustworthy shetland pony is worth its weight in gold. Some of them can be real stinkers when they decide to be.

Aside from all the generous help offered thus far, can't this cat be taken under a farm animal protection clause? I know down here some farmers have the right to protect their livestock. That would negate the need for a tag would it not.

Sorry for the loss, I can only imagine the sorrow in the little ones hearts.

Did you miss the part about cats being open right now? Or do you just like to poach things?

Yup. They can pretty much shoot an Alien Chupacabra from the House of Saud if it's eating calves.
