Have a spring draw in 7-17. I was wondering if anyone has any predictions on what the snow will be like in mid April?

By mid April should be down to about 10 feet.;-)

From what I have seen in the past, mid may at the earliest. Roads might be open on the south and west aspects, but north and east aspects will have nice wet deep snow on em yet! Take the snowshoes!! Moosin

It will still be good for snowmobiling.

Thanks. We have snowshoes and are prepared for snow. Because of work and other obligations we can only go in mid April or latter in May. I figure that May will be better, but we want to try a day or two at the start of the draw time.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are no roads being plowed past the old camp anymore. Could make access even tougher before sometime in May.

We can also quad in if needed. Just want to get out into the bush and look around. I think access may be limitted for us. But it would still be good to get out.

One thing about the fact that the roads are no longer maintained is that if a guy can get into some of the out of the way places in the years to come there are going to be some excellent oppurtunities, especially for spring grizz.

Not sure if a quad will work. Snowmobile, in april will be more up your alley, and then you may need to ride some gravel with it too! I would wait till may before you head out! Moosin

I think its pretty safe to say it will be May long or longer until a truck can drive up the Pas lake road. Bikes will make it a little sooner but even they are no good in the sugary half melted snow if its over two feet deep. I will be keeping an eye on the North Fraser road and can keep you updated when I can make it in there, if you want.

Thanks for the assistance. Like I said it is not all that out of the way for me to go out there, so if it is not that accessable it is not much of a wasted day. Can always get out and walk a bit if we can get into an area that looks promissing.

I'm pretty sure snowmobiles aren't allowed. Just checked the regs

mid May bear hunting in the mountains can be summed up in this pic

a 700 grizzly with good tires did a bit better but not much. This was the end of the road in the 2nd week of May last year's scouting trip

Considerably easier to get unstuck. Lugging on the Grizz 700 all day would SUCK!!

Best way to do it.

Head out early and find a green/brown patch and you'll find bears. Usually don't have to worry about sows being out or hunters.

A couple of our spots are usually covered in 10+ ft of snow but the slides have slide and the boars are out.

There will definitely be some areas open in 7-17 come the opening, but access to them will not be easy unless the weather warms up significantly. Some nice bears have been taken back there in April! I would tell you where they are but then I would have to kill you...lol. Besides that's where I'll be.

Snowmobiles are not allowed come April 1st, but ATV are ok. If you have access to an ATV with tracks on it, you can get in to some good places.
