here are the final harvest stats for stone sheep in 7b for 2008 the overall age is really great and although the total harvest is a little over the target of 181 keep in mind that 181 is a target and as long as the ages are this good the moe is not overly concerned.

TOTAL HARVEST --- 194
RESIDENT HARVEST - 111
NRESIDENT HARVEST-- 83

RESIDENT +8 YEARS----- 84
RESIDENT -8 YEARS--- 27
RESIDENT % + 8 YEARS --74%

NRESIDENT +8 YEARS --74
NRESIDENT -8 YEARS-- 9
NRESIDENT % +8 YEARS --81%

RESIDENT % TOTAL HARVEST ---57%
NRESIDENT % TOTAL HARVEST-- 43%

OVERALL 81% OF THE TOTAL HARVEST WAS OVER 8 YEARS OF AGE THAT IS GREAT.

If there are any errors in the per centages my only excuse is that it is late but I believe I have the correct. the total number is correct and so are the totals of resident and non resident harvest. Hope you enjoy the stats.

That does not seem tragic to my inexperienced eyes...

Made a couple corrections to your percentages. I couldn't see how if the residents were 74% 8+ yo and the non-res were 81% that the average would also be 81% (especially when the residents killed more than half of the rams total). ;)

Cheers...

Does any one have success rates for resident and non-resident hunters for 7B and 6, over the last several years? I don't think too many people buy a sheep tag, just in case, so tags sold should be a good indication of hunter numbers.

Perhaps also highlight the ratio of non-resident harvest vs resident harvest in 6 ...... I hear its really skewed.

In which direction and why? If you've got the information, spit it out!

Thanks for the info.

I too would be interested in region 6 stats.

will post the region 6 stats in a day or so if all goes well. the ratio is skewed in region 6. the non resident quota is 140 but non residents only harvewt about 70 annually. why the quota is so high in relation to actual harvest is a story in itself.

The Harvest Stats are available on the BCWF website under the Allocation Tables, for all species. covers 98 to 2003.

Also available on the MOE website

In which direction and why? If you've got the information, spit it out!because the residents don't put in the effort to find the sheep that are available.

Hey Ambush. You can enter at least one sheep tag purchase made for the last several years into the "just in case" section.

Just in case I get to go to region 7.
Just in case I find a full curl in region 5 while hunting mulie deer.
Just in case I find a full curl while hunting elk in the EK's.
Just in case I see a mature ram in region 3. Mature ram being one that either breaks the nose or is eight years old or greater for those members that have a difficult time interpreting the regulations.
Just in case a guy feels like flirting with a divorce lawyer if he follows through with all of the above noted "just in cases".

Regardless of the odds I always buy a tag JUST IN CASE sheep tag. We as hunters in British Columbia should be very proud to have this option.

On a side note, in '94 I did not purchase a just in case sheep tag and watched two very nice legal (actually quite a bit better than legal) bighorns graze away unconcerned at 150 yards for 1/2 hour. Never did get a good chance on a 6 point bull that fall! Ever since then I have carried a just in case sheep tag if hunting where they are present and open.

Yeah, I don't like to go anywhere under-tagged either. I guess caribou is about the only one that I don't buy regularly.
