Saw a big black beauty this morning on the way to work. Crossed the road in front of us and gave a good long pause too. Would have been a pretty easy shot but there's been too many smash and dashes this winter to risk bringing the rifle.

Here's a wolf my son and I howled in back in 04. Was a pretty damn cool experience to share with both my son and my dad.

Just wondering....what caliber rifle do you guys use on wolves??

black one I shot with a 308 & 165 gr Nosler BT @ 90 yards. White/grey one which is head mounted I shot with a 260 Remington and 107 gr Sierra MatchKing (not effective) @ 150 yards, hit her again on the run at about 350 and one last one in the head at 15 feet. The last mangy one pictured with the Foxpro was shot with a 223 Remington & 55 gr Nosler BT, 75 yard bang spin spin flop

The first time I ever howled back to a wolf I just tryed to copy the sound they were making. It is really cool when they answer ya back. The day I killed that wolf, we had over a dozen talking to us. They were actually responding more often to my son than to me. Not too many 8 year olds can say they've talked to a wolf. My dad missed another one right after I shot mine.
I've talked back and forth with wolves a ton of times over the years. Just talked to one a couple weeks ago while I was working. Him and I howled back and forth to each other for a good 5 minutes until his buddy started howling down on the river flat. I assume that mutt had found a moose and was telling his buddies to get their asses down there and give him a hand. The wolf I had been talking to went quiet and I could hear the one down on the river howling for well over an hour.
Here is some video footage of one I encountered last spring while shed hunting. There were 5 others that were talking to me, but this is the only one I was able to film.

BTW, I saw yet another black wolf this morning on the way to work. This one was about 40 kms north of the one I saw yesterday.

This bugger was HUGE! He takes up a whole wall!! I had about ten of them run through my scope when all of a sudden this one walked through. He was twice the size of any of the others in the pack. The rest were black...

Just after the shot...

All of you caught some nice wolves. I enjoy reading the wolf treads on this forum.

Last November I was hunting with friends doing some DVD for whitetails. I was camera guy for my brother when 5 wolves ran close to us, one HUGE BLACK. They ran along the cut line we were hunting, so I decided to call moose hopping they would cross the cut line. It worked and he manages to kill the gray one on video.

A week after, I was camera guy for a hunter but had my rifle hanging on the tree. We were in a cutline with heavy deer action. All day we heard the wolves in the valley. At 3pm, I saw the black wolf running in my direction. I set the camera on the wolf and then made the kill shot while he was running away.

I would take a rush like that every year.

Not a troll....just a soon to be new hunter. From his posts he just passed his PAL and will be doing his core next.

You can eat one if you want...but I would imagine the smell in your kitchen might make you think twice about putting it in your mouth.

If we want to hunt prey species we need to hunt predators.

The number of hunters that have actually taken a wolf is pretty damn small.

Cool pics Steveo!

Ain't that the truth! Mine smelt so bad that I was gagging the whole time I skinned it. I try to taste and ultimately eat anything I kill but I'll never touch wolf meat!

Hers mine and a buddies from this past season. As well as a couple more we had to let go as they were on a piece of land that is closed to hunting. I've never seen as many wolves as I have this year.

I take my wolves to a guy in PG to skin they stink way to bad for me to mess with costs me about 2 - 3 packs of cigarettes to get anything skinned/boiled.

He hangs them inside his kitchen to skin them... :D
