Well, the cape off the mulie The Wife(tm) shot this year was a big enough deer to do a bit of justice to a mount of the antlers from the one with forked brow tines that I shot back in 2005. So, last fall we took a quick trip to my favorite taxidermist, and now a few months and a few dollars later, and here she be:

The mulie mount itself:

How it looks in conjunction with the big whitetail The Wife(tm) shot last year (yes, I know we need to re-center the mirror between the two and adjust the lamps position - we'll get that done later; we just got the mulie mount home tonight about 20 minutes ago!).

Thanks guys! I'm pretty happy with it, to be sure. Taxidermy is like tatoos though - once you get one, you start thinking about getting more. This could get ugly!

Great mounts, I like the slight roman nose on the mulie, makes him look like an old monarch. Who was the taxi?

Great mounts, I like the slight roman nose on the mulie, makes him look like an old monarch. Who was the taxi?

The taxi was a local guy (Cranbrook area) by the name of Dan Flint. He's the same guy that did the whitetail on the left in the second picture. I've been really happy with him for both price and quality.

Beautiful bucks, that 4 pt season is really working! Be a good plan to start it with the whities as well.

Bah, no support from me on 4 point seasons (or any point-restricted seasons), for any reason other than true species conservation concerns.

Point restrictions do exactly one thing - they reduce hunter numbers. I used to sell tags for a living - the overwhelming majority of local EK hunters I sold tags to bought a license and a whitetail tag, no mulie tag, no elk tag, no bear tag. Ask em why - point restrictions and (for bears) the meat requirements. Restrict points on whitetails (the last unrestricted deer species in the EK), and you will kill off 50%+ of the hunter numbers around here. That's not a good thing.

IMHO, YMMV, etc.

Good team effort on the mulie mount, it has great caricature and does go well with the whitie. Looks like you need to keep your socks pulled up as the compation is tight in that house.
