well we arrived in fort st john on thursday afternon. we started hunting for our elk on friday.we ended our hunting on sunday night with two down!!! one young bull and one mature cow.
we were starting to have our doubts as to wether we'd be able to pull it off since we saw 3 different herds ,one of which consisted of 23 elk in the herd. all 3 of the herds we saw were out of range for us as well as trying to get permission to hunt them was a challenge to say the least. the only reason we even managed to get a couple is some of elk out of one herd ended up on crown land and we managed to ambush them. in total to say tho we did see all together 63 elk but no bone to speak of. that's what ya get for waiting till the end of the season
like one other person said in a thread it's not a turkey hunt or a gimmie. the weather did cooperate for us. it was absolutely beautiful, not a cloud in the sky but the tempts did dip to -32. when we cleaned our elk it was -22. so to say it was a bit chilly is an understatement!!
what we did find was the snow was a huge factor this year.the elk did not have to rape the hay bails this year since the snow was only ankle deep in most places and therefore they were able to scrape for their feed out in the fields and that didn't seem to bother the farmers. so yes it was a lot of miles to find the elk. we were allowed to stay at a cabin for one night which over looked a huge field that we were told had elk in it but they did not show up,even tho there were fresh beds right off the front porch.
it was an awesome trip !! we even managed to see about 30 moose, over two hundred deer, both whiteys and muleys(only two with bone) and about 20 coyotes all of which we were forced to let live since we had no permission to shoot.
we will be heading back on monday content on an awesome time and elk meat for the year. sorry i don't have any pics right now but i'll see if i can post a few when i get home

My nephew called at 8:30 am this morning from his cell,(16yrs old). He smoked a 6x5 elk with his 30-06. When they got it home Willie and his dad weighted it in at 450+lbs. It goes to show ya,Know the farmers first.. Way ta go on your hunt mgmn300. Good looking eaters. (I might want to go for that draw next year? ) first I will need a horseshoe....
