joel's elk a good news story

With all the negative news about young people these days I thought I would share these pictures and the background. Each year my company donates two rifles to the Norh Peace Rod & Gun Club's Big Buck Night. The rifles are for the youth category (16 and under) one for a boy and one for a girl. winners are drawn out of hat so everyone has a chance. A friend of mine donates a top quality scope and rings to top it off. I just received an email thanking me from one of the winners this year. Joel had an leh any elk tag in 7b and went out with his father last weekend.

Good place for a youngster to spend his spare time, in the mountains with his father. You can see there joy and appreciation in their smiles. Good on Joel, good job on his dad for taking him hunting and good job on Bridger and others like him for donations like this.

the kids up here hunt moose and elk a lot so keeping that andrecoil in mind I usually get something in the 270 or 30/06 class sometimes a 270wsm. went with smaller calibres at the beginning but the kids soon outgrew them. Joel won a 30/06 and immediately headed to backcountry and traded up to a 300wsm which I thought was great, but then he is an exceptional young man.

sorry forgot to add i usually buy model 700 remingtons, model 70 winchester, or browning A bolts. other makes might do as well but these are hard to beat.

Thanks for the reply,I was thinking 308 at first, the girls are not as strong inthe arms to hold up accurately for very long.I wanted to look at the youth models with shortened stalk. Gun store put me onto the Wheatherby Vangaurd the advantage it came with two stalks for when they grow. What do you think.
