Harris Creek does see pressure, but that's because there are a lot of deer up there. Every season I have had opportunity's to take both white tails and mulies up there. I've seen a number of decent bucks too. The earlier in the season you head up there the better I've found. If you're going to head to mable lake I would say look more for Mulies. Squaw valley (not sure if that's how you spell it) has some nice whitetails down low, but it's all private property, and - someone can correct me if I'm wrong - there are a lot of people going through there on quads, bikes, etc. I have definately heard some good things about deer out by westwold so.....listening to Goat Guy could be beneficial :).

How high in elevation will a hunter see a whitetail buck deer in the area of Mabel and surrounding mountains? The mountains are 6000 ft and higher and look open in spots.
What's the highest you saw a buck white tail on a fairly open mountain? On the mountain tops around our lady Mabel Lake's shores.

everything said is true ive lived and hunted lumby my whole life but i have to say some of the biggest white tails ive shot and my dad as well have come off the back side of harris creek. ya its busy but if you hunt slow or hunt in a tree stand (lots of patience) you will get a big deer. theres so much traffic (road hunters) up there that if you sit and wait the deer get pushed around so much they will eventually cross your path... we average a deer out of there every year up in the 140 145 range and two years ago my dad got one there that after 11.5 inches of deductions scored 148 5/8. squawvalley is all owned by art chambers and mabel lake is good for mulies... cherryville is the way to go for white tail though...

:wink:I personally saw a 186 non-typical whity taken. It lived close to town, so why not stick close and make it pay? Any day trip is better than a hotel room.

Hey Jelvis, Harris is great if like Chargerman69 says, sit and let the other do the work. I sit in an area for the morning and watch or listen to the road traffic, quite often see animals being pushed by everyone on the road. Seems like most up there are road warriors, if you walk like I do you hardly ever meet other hunters in that area. There is a reason there are alot of guys up there.

For a guy that is constantly posting threads on the best hunting spots across the province, it seems ironic that he'd be asking for advice on where to harvest an animal...thought he would've known....doesn't Jel know all? Give me a break.

Should try cherry creek out past cherryville i agree anywhere around those areas up any fsr your bound to cross a whitey, see way to many does up and around those parts to not see a decent buck kicken around.. But i also agree with the backside of harris creek lots of deer lots of road hunters but patience and preserverance usually pays off taken a couple nice bucks off that way...

what are you guys calling the backside of harris creek. the top of home road or gunnar rd.? I hunt up there and saw lots of two point mulies, and spiker whiteys but not much lately, and nothing nice at all.

You may want to look at the regs.... Wolves are open in regions 8-21 to 8-26, Mabel lake is in 8-24.

As for the question, I'm not sure on the area. But good luck, always good to hear experienced hunters taking out newbies.
