Well, my boy is turning into the type of hunter that makes a dad real proud! He got the youth draw for the "any age / any sex" Elk in the Peace this year...and he did good (really good).
The story starts off by not being able to contact the farmer in which we usually go to this time of year. So we were hunting on the property we got permission on earlier in the season GOS where my partner and I got our decent 6X6. We set early this morning and waited for light. The cows in our section of the property were very loud and worked up as they were just seperated from their calves yesterday and they were not happy about it. We decided to glass the huge realestate for a bit with nothing but beef and deer. We then got impatient and went to check out some of the other fields. Well we must have moved at the right time, because we came out of the tree area and my son saww 2 Elk busting for the next tree line from the one we just drove through. We managed to cut them off and have them stand broadside at about 160 yards. They were 2 big bulls. They were similar in body size but 2 very different antler patterns. The front one was a great 6X6 (the one he decided to take) and the other was a thick, but short-tined 7X8. The decision was his and he picked the one that Dad would have pick also. The 6X6 was tall, wide, great 4's and 6's and just a great looking bull! My son got the fenceline, got his rest and let rip! The Bull lunged forward and took a few steps before stopping. He lowered his head and was gasping for air. My son took steady aim on his neck and squeezed another shot off...........down goes the big bull and my son then began to breath for the first time in about 3 minutes (lol) He ran over to the animal and went to his knees! I think this is the happiest I have ever seen my son and I was incredibly thankful that I could share this moment with him!
Here are some pictures of his Bull!

You don't get them much better then that bull.

The best part of this hunt is seeing your son take a magnificent animal as of this one .

This hunt will be apart of you both till the day you die ,congrats to your son on taking this fine bull elk and to you for being part of it all http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif.

Awsome bull!! The only thing better is it being your sons, right!? With my son going into his third season this year, I really enjoy sitting back and watching his enthusiasm.....

In my eyes, nothing beats a father son/daughter hunting team....

It is funny that you said that hunter1947! He took the rack over to his friends place last night and his friend is calling today to see when the next CORE class is being held in PG. He wants to take up hunting so bad!!

Thank you all for the great comments! I am a very proud father and now I can put my focus on my little guy as I think this one is off to a good start!!

Here are a few more pictures of his firsts for your enjoyment!!
