Well it did't start off that good for me. 3 hours of walking in the rain and never saw a thing. Firebird saw a fawn and a doe. Willyqbc sees two doe, a cow Moose, and a coyote. We decide to check out a couple of road on the way back. We see another 5 does and one buck who was off the road before I got out of the truck. So we saw 9 deer before dinner. We head to willyqbc's for some grub and Firebird and I head back out as Willyqbc had to go to Swampers Bday party. Fire bird notices some white asses so we stop the truck and take a closer look. We thought at first it was a doe and a faw but we later saw two does and two fawns. No horns so we move on. we then see a deer that turned out to be another doe. A little later wqe're driving along and I see the distinctive white ears. I say to firebird, I see a deer and it's close. We crawl throught the ditch and there he is my little two point. Soon as i saw bone on his head I put the cross hairs up and fired. Little did I know there was a bigger two point beside him about 10 yards away. We were only 40 yards of the deer when I fired. Shot him with my 300 win mag with 200 gr partion. He was quartering away so the shot went through his abdomen, liver, lung and out just behind the oposite shoulder.

It wasn't a huge buck, but like some of you said it's some fine eating. I just wanted some meat for the freezer. Now that I've used up my region 5 tag,Firebird and I are headed into region 7 to try and find either another buck or an imature bull/calf moose.

On a hill.......in the bush......near a clearcut;-) Seriously though, with all the logging going on here everything looks like that picture!. It was west of town.

Oh, and Mark..... we're heading out to region 6 for moose tomorrow so Marc was just taking any buck as he only has 2-3 days here before we head out.

Which part of Region 6 are you hunting and for how long? We are headed out to 6-4 on Friday.

Marc

Well we never got anything yesterday. I saw two deer one doe and the other yet to be determined, all I could see of him was his rear end as it was going throught the woods. I could hear him bounding but couldn't see him with the sun in my eyes. Firebird saw 5 deer and a cow moose.

Now we're getting the gear ready to head into area 6 to be ready for the any bull opener.

Please mention to Marc about the dangers of dragging deer out with his eyes closed. He should be watching for bears. Thank you.

so how's the quest for deer and moose in Region 7 going Marc?

Marc
10-24-2005, 08:57 PM
Well, it's kind of weird. So far since I've been in Quesnel I've seen 100 deer (not exagerating) of which we only saw 3 bucks and they were all in region5:confused: I've seen 5 coyotes, two cow moose, and one calf. Calf was in region 6 of course. Haven't seen a moose since we came back in to region 7. We're heading out again tomorrow in region 7 to try and fill another deer tag and if we're realy realy lucky maybe we'll fill a moose calf/imature bull tag.Marc.

Marc
10-25-2005, 09:49 PM
Well, we gave it hell, but never came up with a calf/imature bull in Region 7 or any bull in Region 6. In 10 days of hunting we saw a cow with a calf in region 6 a dry cow and a palmed bull moose in region 7. We saw 3 bears in Region 6 and one bear in region 7. We saw 20 deer in region 5 of which 3 where bucks. Saw in excess of 80 deer in region 7 but all where flat tops. Young bucks must have taken a shit kicking during the calf season.

I've got a tone of pictures that I need to go throught when I get home. Heading to the barn of death to cut up my deer tomorrow night before I head back to the Island.

Had an awsome time hunting with Willyqbc, Firebird, Swamper, Oldtimer, and a short visit with Amphibious. Hopefully this will be the first of many trips to the mainland, now I have to bring the meat home and try and win over my wife to let me go again next year  .

Hahaha - sounds like you guys had a blast Marc :)

It's a very weird year for moose in many places - the weather's bizarrely warm and the moose seem confused and unco-operative.

Glad you managed to get a little for the pot - that's a nice buck!
