i have an remington 1100 in 20 g, and am wondering if the steel shot would ruin my barrel, or is there another alternative.

I'm not sure about 1100 it be a bit old to shoot steel,i have a 11-87 which can shoot steel. What choke does your gun have?1/4 or 1/2 maybe o.k best to check with gunsmith/gunshop.I don't know what the law is up there in Canada but there are other non-toxic shots eg.hevi-shot,buismith,tungsten

You should be ok with either barrel but I would use the modified first. Nothing wrong with an 1100, I used one for years and besides looking great, it was nice to shoot!

ruger#1,

Use the modified barrel ... you should have no problems with steel shot.
