Maybe the fawn died of starvation or malnutrition first, it's possible. Looks too small probably born late and could'nt make it through cruel winter that mother nature brought on.
Jel-mother nature is cruel too.

Good Call Jelvis. Through my work I often get calls from people that find a dead deer, calf, sheep etc. and the first thing that comes out is that a Coyote made the kill. This is because they saw the sign or a coyote on the kill. More often than not the coyote is doing what coyotes do and that is batting clean up and that the animal died from other causes than being pulled down by a coyote. This is not to say that coyotes don't kill because they do but often Coyote gets the blame for making the kill when in fact they did not.

I blame wolves, now lets kill them too. With Coyotes and Wolves out of the way, all that is left to take out is wild horses.

Looks like they are really efficient eating machines.

I agree most times but not this time. I back tracked and seen where the coyotes took it down. The snow is wast deep.

MD You had better believe it. A couple of coyotes can clean up a full size deer down to the hide and bones in 2-3 days. Couple this with the Ravens, Magpies, Crows and Eagles it dosent take long. Another reason is that once the Deer gets broken down the predators drag off the pieces. That is another reason that predator identification can be difficult at best because they disappear so fast.

My Aunt and Uncle used to leave just above Antler's beach(just moved) and they could hear the yotes going crazy about every third night about this time of year and later. They would go for a walk the next day and sure enough they would find a fresh whitey yote kill.
The yippers would run the deer up against a fence inside an orchard for easy pickens.

A buddy saw similar happennings along the bottom of the Connector fence. Smart little meatasauruses and take more deer than most people realize...at least during "certain" times of the year.

They are canibals also! I shot a yotey a few days ago, left it there, came back 2 hours later and another yote had nearly eaten the first one I shot! :-o

Hi Mark I always throw coyote bodies back in to the bait stations after I skin them. Not too long before there is nothing left.

Oh, I get it! You kill one, sit and wait, and then kill his friends. Nice tactic! I'll have to try that. Little buggers ruined at least two of my hunts last season!

We came across a dead wolf this fall, not sure what it had died from. Was just laying on the side of a remote trail. Maybe got ruffed up by and Elk or moose, anyway we were back by later and the thing was still all intact, just rotted away. Looked like nothing had touched it at all.

Meh - coyotes have to eat too. Neat to see some predator kills.
