Does anybody know where to get some bulk balsa blocks? I am looking for 4x4 or 4x6" in any length of bulk balsa. I am looking for wood to turn in to fishing floats.

Damn, can't think of it off the top of my head but theres an exotic wood supplier on our side of the river that may have it, check out the yellow page under wood suppliers, if I come up with the name I'll let you know!

try a model shop...people use it for making airplanes and rockets. The other source would be fiberglass boat builders, although the size would probably not be correct for floats.

The Hobby Shops are too much money. I want bulk big blocks that I can rip down to the size I need. I tried Windsor and they have nothing.

Thanks Ali, I will try them, but most Hobby Shops have small pieces and want top dollar. It is more cost effective to buy big blocks and rip them down.

My dad used lots of balsa wood for his model trains - I know he would go downtown to get it

also try calling a taxidermist as they sometimes use balsa for mounting birds etc so they may know a good supplier as well

Long shot, but try a boat building supply place. I know they sometimes layer balsa between the glass ply's. We use ton's of it at work for the same reason, but it's in 1/2" sheets.

Contrary to popular belief we have left the stone age Dave. The new custom float material of choice is balsa. However, if you have generous contributions of cork to make classic floats I will graciously accept them.

I said custom float material not cookie cutter float material. It is like comparing an SPS stock and a McMillan. I am not saying the Foam floats don't work, but the balsa are a little nicer.
