I finally managed to get the time and interest to head to the bay yesterday between 11:00am -2:00pm. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it to the water as where I launch my boat wasn't plowed out so I ended up dragging the boat on the snow to the water.

Marshall was biting at the bit and soon as I got the boat next to the water he was in there retrieving sticks between the ice chunks. While I was getting the boat loaded up and ready to go.

We set the boat and decoys up and had several ducks within shooting range checking out the spread but I let them go hoping for a closer pass that never materialized. I did manage a drake widgeon and a drake mallard before I packed up and headed back home as we had plans with good friends of the family. It was a short hunt but better then not hunting at all. Hoping to get out again tomorrow.

sounds like a good time a short hunt is way better than no hunt

As long as Marshall had fun, that's what it's about.

Any ducks between 11:00 and 2:00 is good. That has to be the slowest time for the bay.
Wish I could make it out tomorrow but I am still clearing snow. I will be snow plowing well into Wed. I wish more that I was not in AB on Dec 20, as I missed the best goose hunt Dinsdale has seen in years.
Did 30 min. of scouting around 2:00 pm today. Lots of people out. Hopefully the terminal gate will be open tomorrow so I can scout the good spots without getting out of my pick-up.

Funny day for ducks yesterday, too clear and calm. We hunted a neighbor's corn field in the morning and got 8 mallards between us, saw lots but they didn't co-operate. John and the boys headed to the bay in the afternoon, and came home with a mess of teal and a shoveler. John said he hadn't seen that many people at the bay in ages. I'm sure when he gets up he'll fill you in on more details, I gotta go to the barn.

Like Tanya said we got 8 mallards in the morning and we hung them in our usual spot. I looked out the window after lunch and someone else was making lunch out of our ducks.
