I have always taken my girls out hunting with me and now this is the one of my "proudest momments". My girls and I went out on our first major overnight hunting trip as both of them drew LEH's. As it was snowing, we,(really they-ages 13 &17), decided that we were not going to stay in the wall tent, so we ended up stayin' in a hotel every nite. It made for long days as we were up early and then had to drive in 100km every morning. Along the way we hunted deer of which we saw many, however the response I got was; "we are not here for deer-we need a goat".

Day 1 was cloudy and foggy and we never saw any goats, but the scenery was great; http://i443.photobucket.com/albums/qq159/Kozynest/GoldenGoat08025.jpg

Day 2 was even "foggier" and it started snowing.:-(
Day 3 we got some nice sunny breaks, but there were no goats to be seen;

Day 4 Finally we get the break we needed and spotted a Goat. It was late in the day(1PM) and after a chat with my girls, they decided to go after it. I tried to talk them out of it as I have hunted Goats before and knew the long hike ahead of us and if they shot it-we would be well into the nite.
It was the only goat on the mountain side, so we were thinking "Awesome- a Billy". Were' goin' for it;

The thought was, if we get there and it decides to leave or if we run out of time, then we had a great hike and we would head back before it got too late. We crossed 2 big slides along the way and the 3rd got a liitle scary so I went on up ahead for a look. The slide was only about 50 meters wide but steep. When I got across the ridge, low and behold the goat was still there.Between the goat and myself, there was another steep slide. I ranged it at 299 yards.
What do I do? I went back to my girls and told them the goat was there. They were very excited, and decided to take there time and cross the slide. It took about 40 minutes to cross this slide. When we got there the goat was standing up but not going anywhere. My 17 yr old did not feel comfortable with such a long shot, so Brianna the 13 yr old decided to take the shot as I had spent more time with her at the range. the rifle was sighted in for 200 yds. and I told her it was just like at the range.Aim,Breathe,squeeze.
We set the rifle down on a deadfall, and when she squeezed the trigger, "BANG" and the goat was painted red:smile:

We safely made it down the mountain, with my daughters first "nanny". It measured 9 7/8" on one side and the other tip broke off therefore measuring 9 5/8".

That's a nice goat. Congrats to your girls. Looks like some pretty tough country for newbie goat hunters. Good of you to get them into hunting.

Wow . . . I'm impressed! Not many teenage girls will go hunting especially for goats. You've trained them well. Hopefully my two girls will join me one day! :smile:

Ive been up acouple of goat hills myself and know what its like.Considering that many guys I know dont have the intestinal fortitude to do it themselves.You gotta respect and be proud of your girls and take some pride in yourself for helping to accomplish a hunt like that,hats off to the three of you!!!:smile:

Way to GO!!!!! Congrats to your daughter on a great goat! I love seeing kids out hunting and especially love seeing dad's taking their daughters out. Way to bring them up right!!!! I, too, shared a great goat hunt with my 12 year old son this year. Like others have said, goat hunting is tough enough for adults. Seeing kids doing it, is simply awesome and a great way to get them addicted to hunting for life. Can't wait to take my daughter above timberline in near future.
