I'm looking for hints or tips on how you guys and gals have mounted your hides of any kind to the wall. I have advice from Mainlandhunter on how he would do it but wondered what any alternatives might be?

Most Rugs used to have metal Loops sewn on the backside to facilitate hanging if that's what you wanted to do with it.

I'd find a Taxidermist and get some loops stiched into it...might as well do it right.

Nice Rug too BTW !

I prefer longer staples (using aircompressor) into the studs and smaller staples elsewhere.

I have the same colour bear hanging on my wall at home.I used heavy tacks, the kind with the plastic head.you have to use the appropriate number to hold it up there.Push them thru the felt where the hair will hide them.It is a two person job.Mines been on the wall for about eight years now.Just hop onto a ladder from time to time to vacume(sp) off the dust.It works!!

I was wondering the same thing for mine.

Will sunlight fade the hide color?

Tacks wont hold mine up on the wall. Its too big and heavy.

No colour fade at all.The bear I have hanging is just under 6'.It won't work with a g-bear.

My hunting partner stitched on his own plastic rings (about 3\4 inch dia.)to strategic points on his rug to get it to hang correctly .Worked great !

I'd considered the multi tac idea, as this one is the double felt kind, I can hide then between the layers.

Thanks all, I'll do a much better picture once it on it's wall!!

Hey Dave have you considered draping that nice bear of yours along the back of the couch...kind of like that picture of Sarah Palin's Grizz rug on the cover of the National Post a few months ago? Just keep the kids from messing with the head.

ya i know what a dog can to do a bear rug...just before my son was born we moved the bear rug out of bed room into the back room by the door and it was on the chair in the livin room and one night my dog was in the house and took the top of the ear off it...

Dave,

I know of a guy who hung his Bear firs on the wall from the crown moulding up at the ceiling using 25 lb fishing fline. He removed the crown moulding and nailed the line to the ceiling frame. Then he replaced the moulding over the line to conceal it.

The idea was you couldn't see the line. He used 3 pieces about 2 feet long to hang the Bear. It worked like a charm. It saved nailing into the gyroc.

Just a thought.

By the way , thats an awesome looking fur, good work !

I used fine finishing nails for mine. Easy to hide and small holes in the wall.

What I have seen on a few bear rugs is they screw in them Spiro inserts into the drywall then put a screw trough the hid.

You can't see the screw latter because it is barred under the hair.

Do the nail heads not pull through the felt?
Either way, I need to go shopping, just imagine what the check out person will think when a guy with a buzz is buying 2 cans of hairspray!!!

Any taxidermist worth his salt should have sewn rings on the back.

I also have a question:

What do you do if you don't have a wall big enough for a bear?

Can't put it on the floor cause the dog will lay on it.

Right - I'm already giving up one kidney, I don't think a person can survive without the other one.

A life size would be good - dinner outside, EVERYDAY!

No sweat Nasty, that's one nice bear.

Hey Goat guy, funny you should mention it. It's a good thing my bear wasn't bigger. Even still the boss is going to have to find another spot for her sofa table :smile:

One nail each paw through the hide and 2 nails for the head. Two more through the top mid way and one in each paw on the bottom. Didn't have any other wall in the house big enough for it, so at the front door it is. Would have put it in the front window, but the wife wouldn't let me .........

I hear you. I can't even afford "pegboard bears" anymore:-(.

Kidney, eh?? I tried selling my testicles(barely used) but I never got any bites.

Just use nails but stick them through the fur so you can't see. Stay away from the shiny ones.

Yeah, funny.

The boss isn't going to be too happy when this thing shows up - got no room. If we put it on the floor the dog will lay on it; otherwise there's the roof. Claws is already in our bedroom - she didn't want to scare all her friends.:-P

Gonna have to put a guys room in the barn.

I hung my cougar rug with the staple gun. Just hide the staples between the two layers of felt. It's a two person job. Use lots - they're cheap!
