If you want to do any decent icefishing you have to travel out of the lower mainland.I would recommend Loon lake near cache creek. You could rent a cabin on the lake and you and your son would have a really good time. Also I would plan it during a warming trend as the fish are much more active and it is more comfortable being on the ice.

TRy the coquihalla lakes, they are close to the lowermainland and have cabins at the lake. Fished it a few times myself and had lots of fun.

surrey lake, just out of meritt would be one to try, there used to be cabins you could rent on the lake but im not sure if they still do that,i would think that the cabins are still there

Hello:

A good lake, places to stay and easy access, is Lac la Hache. It has good kokanee and rainbows. Ice is real good now. Also many more lakes around here for ice fishing.

Only word of advice, be prepared and make sure you check with the local sports shop for advice on ice etc.

regards

Well...I went ice fishing yesterday, got a couple bites but did not land any...

After I cut my first hole, putting the auger back in the toboggan, it slipped out of hand, I grabbed for it....Zing!!! Bleeding like a stuck pig....No bandaids so used paper towel and electrical tape....Fished for a couple more hours..Nada...

Got home, wife looked at it, up to the hospital I went.....4.5 hours in emergency for 3 stitches in my Trudeau finger...Doc said he should put in 6 or 7 but 3 should hold it fine....

Now I know why I only go ice fishing once every 5 friggin years....
