I shot this buck 3 weeks ago or so. Wasn't going to post him up but I figured if we all kept our harvests quiet then the site would be pretty lame so here he is..

Not the big one I was after but we only had a split second to make the call to shoot him or not so I rolled the dice. Still a good buck and considering he has 5.5 inch bases, 23 3/4" mainbeams, just over 18" inside spread, he had the makings to be a real good deer but his tines arn't as as long as they needed to be (longest is 8") and he's a 5x4. He was rutted pretty hard and was pretty lean. He had a loose patch of hair on his ass that pulled out fairly easily so I think he was run down pretty hard.

Brambles that WT is a very nice deer with a very nice set of antlers to go with it ,I wouldn't think twice on taking this WT deer.

This deer has a very young looking face on it ,do you think it was a young deer ????.
By the pic it looks like it still has a good weight left on it.
Anyways its a real nice animal and you did the right thing taking him ,congrats to you getting this fine deer http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gifhttp://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon6.gif.

Man that`s a great looking buck.I know how you feel though,I got mine in late Sept,And looked him over for at least a whole minute before I shot. The next day I saw the one I really wanted:mrgreen:
Mine green scored 140 net which ain`t bad for an E.K. buck but I have seen 160+ around here. One good thing about getting them early is all they have been doing is eat-sleep-poop.:mrgreen:Very tender and no rut smell.

No its already steaks, roast and ground. I probably won't make sausage this year. Not until I get the right sausage plate for my grinder or a sausage stuffer.

His backbone was sticking up a fair bit.
The front surface of his front teeth were worn through to the cores but the weren't really "worn down". Didn't check the molars, I'm no expert on aging deer so I'm not even going to hazard a guess.

He has the biggest bases of all the deer my buddies and I shot this year, Mulies and whitetails together. So I assume he had a little age to him.

Nice solid whitey, I love mass and big bases. I missed a buck nearly identical to that one this year, and another even bigger simply slipped away on me. Its just not in my future to ever get a nice whitey.

Nice going Brambles, that's a pretty nice whitetail. Those bases are great - lots of mass. Do you think he was on his way down hill a bit, and if he had longer tines last year?

I don't think he was on his way down hill, I didn't get that impression from his rack anyhow, probably just good genetics that needed a year or two more to really round out.

Brambles,
Solid Buck man! Congrats! Way bigger than any whitey I've killed. I came close to killin a dinky dog rat deer this year. Small spiker that had his head behind a tree. He slowly peeked his head around the tree and I could see what looked like tine, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't a branch. He then spun and took off and his spikes were on both sides. Too bad, I don't want those rats expanding any more than they already have.
