6.5 Panther strikes again. Two days after downing my whitetail, my buddy used my rifle to take this frying pan mulie. Nice chunky bodied buck, should fit well in the freezer.

I'm super impressed with this rifle and cartridge, every deer I shoot with it just is a bang-flop. Can't ask for more than that.

Time to go skin...

I suggested he use my rifle when we glassed this guy from the blind, instead of his 375 H&H.

Spotted the buck @ 200 yards or a bit more, decided due to favorable wind conditions and him being ears deep in alfalfa that we'd sneak up and close the distance by stalking from round bale to round bale.

Managed to get to 128 yards before running out of bales, after 5 minutes he finally turned broadside and the shot rang out. I was spotting through the binoculars and saw the bucks back end slam down and his front end follow, dissapearing in the alfalfa.

Went up, took some pics, went and got the truck, gutted him, then headed for home. Was hunting for about 30 minutes maybe.

Freezer sitaution is looking much better after this weekend

Is that thing a wildcat? How many grain bullet? You probably told us in some other post but I missed it if you did.

It's kinda a wildcat...

it's basically a 260 Remington. I use R-P brass headstamped '260 Rem'

it won't chamber factory ammo due to the fact that the chamber was cut with a short throat so I can seat bullets right on the rifling if I so choose to.

I had the 'smith stamp '6.5 Panther' on one side of the barrel, to pay respect to the original name the 6.5-08 had when gunwriter Jim Carmichael first wrote about it in gun magazines. Kinda a neat custom touch

I shoot a 130 gr. Barnes Triple Shock X bullet @ 2840 fps over 43.0 grains of H4350.
