Went out today with my brother to look for a buck in Region 3. We hiked up into the timber and were following a sweet game trail. I had my gun in my Eberlestock J107 scabbard and was busily snapping pictures of the area. We rounded a corner and he started stuttering and exclaimed Bobcat! I didn't even see it yet because of some willows, but it was only 20 yards away. I went to grab his gun to shoot it, because it was handy, but then realized I had time to slide my own gun out. I pushed my SLR camera aside and layed prone on the trail looking up hill. It leisurely strolled out, not even knowing we were there. I chambered a round, placed my crosshairs behind it's shoulder and touched off. The Bobcat went down, kicked twice, an expired quickly and cleanly. The grand total distance of the shot was probably 40 yards. I shot him with a 165 grain TSX in a 300 Win Mag at about 3100fps. The best part was in my precarious position I managed to scope myself a good one. The first time and it is a deuzy, about 1.5 inches long between the eyes. The entrance hole was non existent practically and the exit hole was only about as big a round as my middle finger. I cancelled my tag, luckily I bought one for when calling coyotes. We took some pictures I put him whole in my Eberlestock pack. He goes off to the taxidermist tomorrow for a full mount. Talk about a great day out with your brother!

Oh, How much do you guys think it will cost for a full mount?

In my search for info into my first bobcat, I was quoted approx $150 for a tanned hide, $650 for a full rug and $850 for a standing cat. That included the cat skinned by the Taxi, as he wanted it on ice or in his hands whole ASAP

I'm aiming for the rug, but once I have one I'll decide for sure.

BTW nice cat, I can't wait for my turn!

$850 for a standing cat, I would check around, a big lynx I shot 2 years ago was only $500.00 for a full mount.

Barry Kilback did mine but I think he is only doing stuff for friends now. If you know him, call him other wise, you will have to check around..

You get what you pay for. 850 is a good price. I would see some full mounts before commiting to your taxi.

Nice gash8-) Are you wanted you never show your face:biggrin:

Thats a real nice lookin bobcat, even better your shot left a small hole, must not have been enough resistance to cause full mushrooming of the tsx... The 168's on blacktails here are devastating, had to drop down to a 130gr this year.
I'd like to get a bob or lynx and have it cased in a coffee table next year...

Nice puddy tat!!

Make sure you look at some of the taxis cats.

From what I've seen cats are one of the toughest animals to master.

Just because someone does great deer and other animals doesn't mean they're are necessarily good at mounting cats.

I've seen some pretty hideous looking cat mounts:?.

Nope no lynx or bobs here, but they're just a ferry ride away :)
Next year for sure, when the younger dogs are a bit older.

Ditto. Just this past weekend.
It was sitting in a garbage can waiting for a taxi-ride to the dump (no kidding). It had the expression of seeing Oprah in a bikini....

These kind of jobs are usually early editions of the artist. VERY IMPORTANT to see examples and not to let price be the deciding factor.

Awesome cat. If you can spend the money on a full mount. If you are short on cash right now when you figure out your taxi just get it tanned for now and when you have the dough do the full mount. That thing is too pretty. I would really try to get a full one done. Great job!
