We got back from our deer hunt up in 7a and all the mallards are gone again. Went out Saturday and had all of 5 birds come into the decoys and we took 4 of those. I read an article once on how the ducks will wait for a warm front to come through and then they ride the front edge of the high pressure ridge all the way to California. Apparently this uses half the energy they would otherwise need to cover the same distance. Looks like that's what happened while we were away. Last season we didn't really have one of those fronts come through and the mallards hung around for most of the season.
