I just had to break down and get my christmas present early..I could'nt wait another few weeks.

A Purebred black lab to be my newest companion on my out door adventures.

The plan is to take lots of time and train him for duck hunting next season. As long as the women in my house dont have him wearing all sorts of designer puppy clothes and let himout of the house.

So far the family doesn't know anything about him. I have been sneaking over to the breeders house every couple of days to visit he will be coming home with me for good on the 24th of December.

Awesome Derek, nice looking pup. Pick yourself up some books on how to train and read it now so when the time comes your not struggling to find what you need to be teaching the dog a a certain stage. Get some of the boys who hunt ducks around you to save you some wings and get him to start playing with them right away even if it's just tossing it down the hall and getting him to give it back to you.

After what seemed like weeks worth of waiting, the little guy is finally home with us...he sure has grown these last few weeks and surprisingly he is already housebroken...now we have to get him to sleep through the night.

Beautiful pup. What is his name?

His name is Oliver, but we have all started to call him Ollie. He is just over 7 1/2 weeks so he still sleeps alot. I have started to play fetch in the hallway and he is a natural plus it really tires him out. A little stressful at times and he has kinda killed New Year but it is all worth it when he looks
at you with those puppy dog eyes.

How time flies it seems like only yesterday this little black bugger was keeping me up at nite. All he does is eat and poop, but I think he is eating more than he is pooping cause looking back at the pictures he sure has grown.

I have him playing fetch in the yard with two balls that are covered in duck wings and he loves it. No problem finding both balls and retrieving them both with vocal commands. I dont know how he will be in the field but his personality is perfect for the house.

They grow so fast is right. Nice looking dog. Are you planning on hunting him this fall?

that is the plan, he loves the water and retrieving but has a hard time with noises still...I have been letting him chew and play with the duck wings while I watch duckhunting on TV with loud volume to get him used to the sounds. Will really work on the gunshots in the next month or two starting far away and closing the distance with low calibre rounds.

If anything it is fun to have another male in an otherwise female dominated house.

very nice dog!! Ollie is a stud!

As for the gun shot, I am starting with a cap gun with the loud caps... This may be a great place to start when he is fetching for you, throw the ball, then shoot the cap a few times on his way back! Banging pots and pans works wonders too, because that a sharp sound...

The other thing is make it seem like it was nothing at all. If you ignore it... he will ignore it, plus they feed off your moods and your emotions so actually think that it is nothing just playing with a cap gun with no regard for him. If he flinches at all or stops what he is doing, or backing away form you, you are too close. I started about 20 feet from him and have been working my way right beside his kennel when engrossed in a chew toy or (I know it is not ideal but when he is eating)

I have also got my dad to fire the cap gun when he is stalking a wing or somthing
