Well we went on our trip up north again & we had a great time as well as bagging a few deer. Each of us got a mule deer & two of us got a nice white tail. I was hunting whitetail when it was -28c. I was walking up a cut line when I saw movement about 300 yrds. ahead. I looked through my binos & saw a nice buck at the edge of a thicket. I had to move quickly up the cut line to get a clear shot, thats when he saw me & took off like a bat out of h""l. I knew the rut was in full swing so I set up & used my rattle bag & doe bleat to call him back out. Sure enough he came right back to where he went in. he was broadside @ 100 yrds. One shot through his spine & down he went.
I was hunting on the last day of our seven day hunt when I shot my mulie. We drove to our spot, parked the truck & hiked to the river breaks. About two miles down the river I stopped for a break. After about 15 min. I was walking over a knoll to look down into a poplar filled valley when I saw a doe trying to sneak away from me. Right on her tail was this huge buck. I had to pick an opening through some trees & I shot him through the top of his lungs. He layed down right away. I waited for about 15 min. & I could still see his head & ears were upright so I had to sneak another shot through a small opening to put him down for good. http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee231/lynx2lynx/ftstjohn264.jpghttp://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee231/lynx2lynx/ftstjohn189.jpg

Great looking buck bud. I am super jealous having missed out on my annual WT hunt this fall. Congrats. Love the snow with a great looking whitey lay on it.

It was -27 where we were on the 19th up there .... don't know how you missed the cold temps on the 19th and 20th if you were there at that time.

Well, you and your friends sure have the makings of some fine meals in the future, and some great memories as well. With those temps there certainly shouldn’t be any spoilage! Seeing those pictures brings back fond memories of hunting in very cold weather, and in deep snow as well, when I was much younger…..
Just wondering, would you be the same “rifleman” who, as a young lad, hunted late season moose with Lee Straight, and stayed in our cabin in Wells Gray Park roughly 40 years ago?
Congrats on a wonderful hunt, and thanks for the story and pics.
