Got back last night from a week in deer camp. We set up the wall tent last weekend and hunted hard for 5 days.
Hunting was tough, we didn't see many does at first, just kept seeing buck. saw 3 different 3points and some 2's and 2x1 all singles.
No shooters, by day 5 we were getting worried. we were heading up to a series of blocks and ridges we like to still hunt. The boys got into the sauce the night before so I had a hard time getting everyone into the trucks. Finally my bud and I figure we would go on our own. Late for first light we're driving up at a good clip, I'm scanning through the maples into the Forrest, then way down in the corner of a block one of those millisecond glances and stop. back up, binos, larger buck. we park to the side of the road out of sight, try to find him again, when we saw him he had moved to the edge and was partially blocked by bush. got into position for a shot ,all I found was small window through the thick Maples , if he steps once I have no shot. Buddy had the binos up and we wait , took forever for him to move his head ,when he did we saw the 4 points and boom. 225 meter with a steep down hill.
shot hit him hard, both lungs,. 270 140g Hornady
When we got down to him we saw he was broken on one side.

The next day my buddy missed a pig,( was nervous the deer was going to bolt and took the face on shot 100 meters kneeling) one of the biggest Mulie's I have seen, that hurt...we looked for a long time , found his track and followed for 300 meters with no sign of a hit.
Sunday we had to go home, went for the morning hunt came back got packed up. My other buddies left before me, I was lingering not wanting to go, sadly I started the truck and headed out. Driving quickly down the main, 500 meters from camp out of the way back corner of my eye I see a flash? didn't even see a deer just something that got the spider senses peaking. stopped, backed up the hill, looked.....Whitetail buck!!!! scramble...taking my eyes off him to get the gun, look back and he's behind some large trees. watching a buck stand there while you load and bring the gun up is the most unnerving thing there is.
40 meters boom , he leaps and bolts, not alot of blood and the way he was zig zagging I lost it a couple times. I was getting worried , classic scene, head down concentrating so hard on the track I walked right beside him....that's a good feeling.
called my one buddy to come back and help.
Had him home and skinned by 10:00 last night.

Great deer, sounds like a good trip. Did it look like the mule had recently broke the passenger side off?

Sorry about the mulie rack, but that whitie made up for it no doubt.
Sounds like you all had an enjoyable outing just the same and that's okay!

That's a beauty whitey, for sure!!

What's up with these whitey bucks standing still for guys driving by??
I don't think I've ever got a shot off at a whitey while driving.

Sunday I was in my treestand all day(11 hours) and listened to a couple of guys drive by and nail a buck.....a few hours later the same guys drive by again and nail another one in the exact same spot:confused:. Never saw the bucks but they were looking for their camera on the second one.

Time for me to change my tactics.

Congrats!

Did it look like the mule had recently broke the passenger side off
Break didn't look fresh, he did have a good size bruise on his shoulder as well as parallel scratches on his back, although you could only see them on the inside of the hind. We were thinking maybe there was a dead cat with an antler in his chest. ( thought he might like that memory rather than as the outcast that all the Does made fun of)
probably just broke it fighting.

were u that white tail looks alot like one that i seen a couple years ago
not near Merritt, closer to Salmon Arm.
