So basically last chance weekend for whitetails. The usual spot hasn't really been that hot this year, but we were figuring on trying it anyhow on Sat morning. I'm out working Cherryville way on Friday and there is an inch of fresh, so I call my brother at 9am and tell him he should have got out of bed because it would have been good. He says he might head out anyhow.
I continue on to work :frown:, hoping it will snow more for Sat. (I work in forestry), Anyhow, one co-worker had been to the work area the two days prior and said there was a lot of tracks around. Your telling me! I am seeing deer tracks everywhere, fresh scraps, rubs.... cool . didn't see any animals, but we are noisy and I have my dog, etc.....Might have found my new spot for Sat morning though. We ended finishing up there early and went on to another area, leaving another co-worker to finish up. We meet up with him later in the afternoon and he says he "rattled" in a buck with a spray paint can while he was working . Can't friggin believe it...... he said within like 30yds too, and said he was "playing" with him, by rattling the paint can for 4-5mins.
I know where I am going Sat morning!. On the way back in to town I here from my brother, turns out he got a decent buck in an area he wasn't even really hunting, he was just using it to glass across to our favorite spot..... Good thing I told him to get out!!!
So Him and I and his fiancée head out Sat morning to try and find the Paint Can Buck. Didn't even rush out, got to the spot at 8ish. Sweet another skiff of Fresh snow. I set them up in one spot, and I sit in another. We decide we would do rattle a bit and see if he shows up. I rattled once right away, waited 45 mins ans tried again..... I was napping a little, sitting, and then I heard the snap. Sure enough there is a deer coming up the trail. Buck. Cool. Rattling works... Cool. Decent little 4 point. Should I take him.... Yep.
Not 100% sure if he is the official Paint Can Buck, co-worker said the one he saw was a big buck... but this guy kinda looks bigger than he is. I find out next week and I think I owe him some steaks.
Also - I've got the pics for Mulie posted now too. Sorry I took so long. That story/pics is here. http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=27905
My brother is tagged out now and I've got two. I think I'll take a day off and watch the Grey cup tomorrow .
