Well my hound is almost a year old now, I got him from the Nanaimo pound after he was left for dead in a snow bank, he rides with me everyday in my logging truck, so he has gotten to see LOTS of wildlife, lots of deer, bears and even 3 cats. He was with me when I got my spring bear, he was not impressed when he had to stay in the truck while we stalked up on it, but was happy to track it when the time came. After I went in and made sure it was down for the count I lead him to the tracks where it left the road, I pointed at the track and told him to go get it, he followed right away, tried to cut my track where I went in but I took him back to where I cut off the bears trail and he lead right to it. He was scared of the bear at first, but it was like a switch went off and we started to bay and bite its rear end. My fall bear I spotted while driving into a setting, had a look and took it, it went down and rolled towards the road, up the hill we went and as soon as we got close he picked up the scent and went to the trail, tracked up the wrong way but knew right away he was going the wrong way turned and ran right to it. All I got to do is find where an animal was to give him the scent and hold on.
