I can't see any cross in him, can't somebody help this poor guy out?I would if I didn't have 2 already,I don't have room for another.I can tell you they are the best damn dogs in the world, and 3 is not to old for retriever training.Good Luck Rex,I'll be thinking about you! Gunner

Can't see any cross as far as I can tell too.

If we didn't already have an 8 yr old male lab thats protective - I would consider it. He's a good looking dog and a little excercise will do wonders for him.

Yes he looks purebred but the shelter can't advertise him that way because they don't have the papers for him. Poor guy is so stressed.

how do i convince my wife that we need this dog, we have 2 large dogs as it is, but there is always a special place for 1 more.
any suggestions on how to get him to the kootenays?

I wish I could heip get him to ya' Ddog, and I'd seriously think about taking him myself even tho' I have 2 chocolate meatheads already, but I'm headed to the Coast for cancer surgery next week, and I don't know when I'll be able to run my own dogs again. No more duck hunting this season.Someone rescue this dog now,no lab deserves to be in a shelter. No dog does for that matter. I phoned my dad in M.R. yesterday about this dog. He went down a seen it this morn. Apparently Rex is a runner, and has been picked up 6 times for being out. That's why he is there.

Most dogs run because they aren't exercised enough.Get him trained and take him hunting,or get him out and run him twice a day,and he won't go anywhere! Gunner

Yes the people would just leave him and he was picked up 3 times they did nothing with him apparently.

It's kind of sad because 99% of the time that a dog develops a bad habit is because the person who owned the dog is to lazy to spend the time to properly train and discipline it and either ends up in a shelter to pass the problem on to someone else or get put down.

When I was younger I knew of a couple who had 3 different labs over a span of 5 years and ended up getting rid of them because they were out of control:roll:.

It's sad to say but I'd sooner spend $1000 and get a puppy from a reputable breeder, then to spend $295 on a 3 year old dog with no history. Starting a dog at 3 years of age for hunting isn't imposable but a lot harder to do then if you started with a puppy. Depending on the cross the dog may not even have the drive or interest in hunting.

If it’s more for just a pet to walk in the woods or toss a ball for then well that’s a different story.

Marc.

He's a male and Labs naturally shouldn't be bought and just left at home in the yard .... they will jump the fence and go exploring.

We picked up our own pure bred chocolate lab from the SPCA because after the 3rd time being picked up - the owner had to pay a fine and he refused and told the SPCA to keep him .... this happened on the day my wife happened to visit and picked up him for $50 dollars.

Great looking dog ... excercise cures the 'running' so to speak.

Some of the best dogs a person can get are from a shelter!

Tried to go through the SPCA to contact the previous owner to find out who the breeder was to no avail .... he's one of the sharpest looking labs I have ever seen.

He's a good looking dog. I'd be tempted but already have a handful with the two labs I have----hope someone steps in for him.

so if a boomer/ senior adopts him all of a sudden he only cost 150 dollars to keep and feed and treat. age descrimination plain and simple.

GREAT news.

My wife and I spoke about it earlier and despite my biatching about adoption fees I would have gone for it if I didn't already have two kibble-devourers here in the city already ;-)

I hope that lad lives in five star paradise with his new family.

Best of luck to Rex and his new family! With a friend to play with and some direction in his life(maybe even some hunting!),and someone to care about him,I bet that his running days are over!Having 2 of the world's most spoiled Chocolate Labs(good hunters both!),I was very concerned about Rex,and VERY happy to hear he has found a good home! My thanks to asurebet and his wife for their efforts to find Rex a home,Cheers,Gunner
