Connected on a buck today even Dana will be proud of. Just to tease you guys it has 11 points per side and mass that made me think I was looking at a small bull moose. Story and pics as soon as I get them off of my buddy's camera.

Huge congrads Tooley!!!! Does he match any sheds youve ever found???
Can ya give us any more details???
Ballpark score???
Im guessing a reg. 3 buck as 8 is closed, that is of course assuming that its a muley?????

tooley
11-16-2008, 09:55 PM
Yeah sorry it is a mulie, and it is a region three buck. I was hunting in an area where there are some good deer but I only hunt this area once or twice a year. As for sheds, I wouldn't even know where to start looking for sheds from these deer.

Ok guys I've kept you waiting long enough! After a couple of walks in the pouring rain at first light this morning my buddy and I decided to wimp out and road hunt. It's a good thing I read the forum on road hunting because it sure payed-off. First I spotted a doe approx. 100 yrds out in and old cutblock. We bailed out I walked up the road and my buddy down the road hoping to get a better veiw of the doe and hopefully of any other deer. After a few buck grunts she slowly started walking away and up out from another patch of trees he followed in hot pursuit. I only caught a small glimpse of his right side but that was all that I needed to see. Upon approaching the area the deer were standing when I had shot, I found a couple spots of blood but no deer. I slowly tracked them through the old cutblock and within 50 yrds I had caught up. There he was standing at 20yrds with his nose right up the does a..... BANG! Unfortunatly all I had was a neck shot and wrecked the cape. Here is one pic to keep you all interested, I will post the field pics as soon as I have them.

That thing is a pig. Unfortunately he probably wont score that well becouse of the huge difference in mass from one side to the other. This is the unfairness of the b&c non typ scoring system IMO

Blktail
11-16-2008, 10:40 PM

To score that sucker, you add his main beams and inside spread and multiply by a kazzilion!

11 inches is pretty damn impressive. Not too many bucks out there that can boast of 22 inches of mass with just 2 mass measurements.

The buck in your avatar looks NICE, too. Got any more pics of your bucks. Always nice when a good hunter that has put in the time and miles hammers a great buck instead of some road hunter that just lucks out...

Like Dana or not ;) the GREAT thing about Dana's MassNtrash was his history with the buck... season after season, sheds, shots... it was a SAGA and he definitely earned every inch of that buck...

I'll take you out anytime Kev. But in my opinion its all about karma. You keep doing the right things and the hunting gods will reward you. Its all about luck, the only skill involved is putting yourself in areas where there are big deer and keeping your eyes open.

Dana, How old of a buck was mass'n'trash. I've shot 2 points with bigger bodies than this guy. His feet and teeth also indicated that he was a young deer.

I never got MnT aged but I believe I had a good idea of how old he was because I personally watched him grow old. I believe he was 9 when I killed him. He too was small when I killed him. I too have shot 2 points with bigger bodies. But I believe his old age and the fact he was walking wounded for the 3 1/2 previous weeks had a lot to do with his lack of body mass. The video footage I have of him from 2 years previous he was an absolute Tank, easily in that 250+ lbs range. That also was his best antler scoring year. The next year he lost 20 inches of tine length.

Some mags like to be first out of the gate on a monster buck but they aren't going to turn down a story if the buck is big enough. I've had my pics and stories in Muley Crazy for the last 4 years straight and I didn't keep my pics off the internet. What mags are looking for is top quality pics. Pics of bucks with the tongue hanging out in the back of a pickup truck bed with the hunter stradled over the buck as he smokes on a cig ain't the most desirable pics to print in a glossy mag. ;)
