It is only fair that I post a pic of Fester with Justin and the goat. Without Fester going up the last ridge with my son, there would probably be no goat in any pictures.

This is actually last year's picture of the monster 6x7 whitetail I tagged. All I got for pic's was this head-shot, because we had trouble finding him. I had to go to work before my wife and neighbours finally tracked him down, and they had him cut up and hanging by the time I got home. I'm 6'1" and stocky for reference.

brotherjack what did he score?

I dunno for sure - didn't have him done by a pro or anything, but just me and a tape measure and the directions in the B&C guide, I figure him to gross score in the low 150-something range. I didn't bother trying to calculate deductions.

I'm not really a big-antler kind of hunter, but hey, when I see a big one like him, I dang sure ain't gonna wait around for a smaller one! :D

I wish it were an Island deer but no dice there. I don't hunt on the island too much anymore. Yes it was from 8-08, not huge for that area. I was in heavy timber and didn't have much time to shoot or be picky and count LOL He'll taste good.

Dude, tell me more about it or did I miss the story somewhere? That thing is sweeet! I am tentatively planning a trip there next Fall as my second oldest brother is a Bush Pilot out of Riverton. We would fly in for moose, but then I wouldn't mind trying for one of those beauties.

Stix, If you fly out of Riverton for Moose, you won't be in the air for long unless you want too and you just might have to beat them away with a stick! Take your favorite medium weight trout rod too, you will regret it if you don't go for the Walleyes there! Man, I think I just had a twinge of nostalgic jealousy! Fred

I used to work for Northway Aviation at their fishing lodge on Sassiginigak Lake in the mid 80's. Later on my brother was their OP's Manager. We ate a ton of Walleye and I can assure you that when I go we will be having a "shore lunch" or two. Walleye is the best white fish I have ever eaten, and that is a lot to say coming from someone who eats lots of halibut.

Stix..........you gotta be kidding me!!!

Jimmy Johnson was my Dad's best friend........I spent my summers working up at Sasaginigak lodge tagging Caribou in the early 80's. I have flown on many many Northway Planes and spent a lot of time around there. Flying out of Riverton etc. I think it was Boat Island that was right across from the lodge....we pushed a big bull off the island and ended up bringing him up right in amongst the lodge to put a radio collar on him.

Way too funny how small the world is........you probably know my Dad as well!

I have chatted with 'Fred' about MB in the past but I know the east side of the lake quite well and have hunted moose up there all my life!!

Such a small world!!

was 178 net or gross? The net score could be that low, the backs are pretty un-even, and the fronts are hard to judge, but 10" loss in net score would be doable, he should gross in the high 180's though. Or at least that would be my guess.

Kirby

PGKris
11-16-2005, 04:30 PM
Yeah seems more than that to me too. With my limited knowledge of scoring I would have thought he would have gone at least 200 gross. It doesn't look like it has more than 10" deductions...

SORRY GUYS!!!

I've got things worked out. I talked to Steve tonight. I had the last two digets mixed up. The deer scored 187 2/8 NET. It barely had any deductions. Apparently it just missed B&C by a few points.

it was a mulie, not sure of a buck or doe, as they demolished the whole thing pretty much. I got a pic in my gallery of Gatehouse holding up all the remains found. Pretty crazy

Guys...

Come on... Some of the stuff that gets shot on here... I don't know. How is anything going to grow up to get really big? LOL joking guys....

Here is the Whitey I took last year. This is a non-typical 6x3 buck. I took him on the second to last day of the season Nov 2004 after passing up at least 15 other shootable whitey bucks.

Patience & Perseverence.

And Another Head Shot

http://www.carlsorensen.com/hunting/whitey20042.gif

This next Whitey is the buck I shot this year... on my 2nd full day of hunting. We knew he was there and that he would make a mistake.... But we didn't anticipate how stupid his mistake would be. (Middle of the field at 3pm) The dummy. He is a nice 5x5. He lost on points because of his back G2 not being symetrical. If he had that he would have scored 173. My best whitey to date.

And Another Head Shot For You

http://www.carlsorensen.com/hunting/whitetail20052.jpg

Both of these bucks were taken from the same location in Region 7.

Now if I can find the pictures I'll post my dad's Non-Typical whitey that he shot a few years back... it netted 202!

Happy Hunting
Carl

Hey Thunder,

I guess you could kind of call them farmers fields... It's private land that is used primarily for honey & pollen production. No livestock. So the deer/elk/moose have taken over.

Happy Hunting!

Marc,

That looks like a nice Muley in your avatar... That's what I really wanted this year but I passed on several legal mule deer bucks. I am holding out for the monster mulie and I'll get him one day. Hopefully next year . If not the next...

Happy Hunting

thanks whiteyman, i am a muley man all the way, i got lots of big ones, but thats my best! 195 2/8! got him last year, was #25 in B.C. books but already bumped a few places since last year. big muleys are a given for me, i just struggle which ones to let go and which ones to shoot. i got a few whiteys but they have been flukers no skill or stradgedy! they still elude me! i still dream of the BIG WHITEY day!

I know this isn't a wall hanger, but it's the first deer I ever got using my bike and that makes it a trophy for me.
