Eagle1 has requested that I post up this thread to include these pictures of Joanne's buff hunt. I'm depending on Bill to fill inthe details when he finds this thread.

It looks as if it is Joanne from Island Outfitters here in Vict.

Third picture looks like they forgot to take the rope off its legs after they shot it. LOL. Should be a law against shooting hog tied buffalo.

Looks like Mike Hammett's cub in the background of one of those pics, so this was likely an LEH up the Sikanni.

Or they tied the rope around the buffalo's legs to drag it out behind the ATV.;)
You're always the pessimist thinking of the worst and having something negative to say.:roll:

Congratulations to Joanne on a great buffalo. Great pictures and landscape too, thanks for sharing.

I am hopeful that next year it finally will my turn to hunt one of these bovines with the compound bow. It’s been on my wish list for some years now.

It is Joanne{ Island Outfitters, Victoria} and her brother Tim, he had the LEH, and a good friend Steve{ coca cola}
Tim shot the buff was not hogg tied, only for transport on the quad and hanging. I'm not sure exactaly where they got it, past Pink Mountain I think,but I couldn't tell anyway Joanne would shoot me,LOL.
I'll see if she will send me a story to post up.
Thanks BW

Huntwriter, reality check. I don't think you could drag that buffalo with that little dinky rope.

I am convinced it was hog tied, right Joanne?

I am convinced it was hog tied, right Joanne?

Why do you figure that?
just cause it's the only way you could shoot one doesn't mean everyone has to hog tie them.:tongue:

Ok.... here you go guys, Joanne's story.
Thanks again BW.

The buffalo was an LEH that I sent in on behalf of my brother Tim! The area was the Sikkani river { I'm not gonna give you guys too much info}
Day 1,2, and 3 were scouting out the areas and seeing an unbelievable amount of animals. We also wanted to make sure we could determine between male and female,old and young.{ the females are just as large and even bigger than the males.}
This was day 4 of our hunt and my brother and I saw this nice bull with a couple of cows at about 4 o'clock . As you can see he got an excellent bull!!
This was a hunt of a lifetime as I almost lost my brother to a stroke 5 years ago, and every time we get out it is a privilage to go with the man who taught me how to hunt.
Thanks to all for your great comments, good and bad.
I'm leaving out the story of the two massive bulls I saw about 30yds away!!! would have been a great archery shot and even better story!!

Joanne - that's a great buffalo. How about some details on gun caliber and how many shots to put him down. Lots of discussions here on calibers, bullet types and weights. It could save somebodys butt if they go hunting buff with a deer gun.

Reality Check? Me? And that is coming from you? You, the man that harps on about crossbows, compound bows, rifle hunters and anybody else that does not fit your criteria of a “real hunter” and then you come here and “accuse” the fine lady of shooting a hogtied buffalo and all the “evidence” you need is to see a rope tied around its hid legs. Lol, lol, lol, and again lol.

Reality Check indeed, look who’s talking. I love you man but you really need to lighten up a bit and give people some credit here.

I agree with goatdancer- Ever try to hog tie a buffalo? That might just might be harder than shooting one. Maybe. Talk about lighten up. Just in case you didn't get it Huntwriter- it was a joke. DUH!

Congrats on an awesome looking buffalo. What a cool hunt. Great job and thanks for the pics.

Good humor bud. I was just howling reading the thread watching you spool them up on something that was clearly a joke.

Bighorn H as I said earlier in the thread TIM'S LEH which HE shot.
Joanne just said she put it in on HIS behalf, which your allowed to do.

It says in the regs what size gun and bullet you can use and if you get a draw in the hunt package you get it will tell you again what size. I don't have the regs in frount of me but I think the minimum cal is 7mm mag and bullet is 175gr.

All it says in the regulations is, “ammunition to hunt bison must be constructed with a 175 grain or larger bullet, which retains 2,712 joules (2,000 ft lbs) or more energy at 100 m” No specification of calibers to be found anywhere. I can think of several calibers that fulfill the requirments and all are less than 7mm mag.

Which calibers retain 2,000 ft lb at 100 m with a 175 g bullet?
I wasn't sure if it said calibers, but I did remember the bullet size.
Just curious. I know some stuff about guns but not as much as some say they do.

pretty much any gun larger than a 270 Winchester except 30-30 Winchester and similar will make 2000 ft lbs @ 100m with a 175 gr or larger bullet
