Any one eat cougar meat? Just wondering because all you take is the hide but what if the hides useless?

Last Saturday I saw a huge brown Lynx. The first sight made me think it was a cougar because of its size. Then when I saw the tail and the detailed facial features, I thought WOW!

Had cougar meat at a wildlife/outfitters dinner in P.G. 2x tastes kinda like turkey the first time I had it a bit dry and the second time it was so tough I could barely chew it.

I heard it's good too. Our rod and gun club serves it at the game dinner every year too. DOesn't the regs say somthing about recovering
"all edible portions on any game hunted in the province?"

I know trappers can leave meat behind, but hunters can't can they? Not trying to start somthing, I just thought that trophy hunting,(including capes) was not permitted?

Hey
Im sure if you tried it at home and didnt dry it out like some rod and gun club dinners it would be awesome. My parents once tied a roast that was half cougar and half venison with a slab of beef fat attached. Slow cooked on the rotissarie....awesome

We've had cougar meat a few times and it is really good. It is much like pork -- smaller sizes in the cuts of meat, but very good. My dad had it at a friend's place and thought it was pork (and my dad does not eat game!).
So if you get a chance, try it. Any meat can be made tough or chewy or dried out--it all depends how it is cooked!

The only types of meat you dont have to take out of the woods is Grizzly bears, wolf, yotes, bobcats, lynx, and cougars. Pretty much all the meat eaters except black bears.

Black bears you must remove and take out the edible portions(4 quarters and the back stips)

If Bubba cooked that ca/deer roast on the BBQ im sure it was great, the only time I had cougar was at your old house HUNTERSDAD, and I can say it tasted good but it was a bit dry and tough, not a bad flavour at all

Regulation states on Cougar, only the hide is a requirement but the hide is useless to me. I only hunt for meat and if the hide is the only thing good, than I guess I just won't kill it but thanks to those who replied, I will be getting myself one of these bad boys.

Good luck bosskiller, if you're not using dogs it's almost impossible to even see a cougar in the woods.

I had it at the Victoria fish and game dinner-it was good,as someone said, sort of mild like pork.I think the edability of most meat depends on how it is cared for and cooked.

Couger meat is one of my favorite wild game meals and have eatin it many time's, I would agree that the large cuts are like pork but better. I have had some smaller dark cut that were not as good, not sure where they came from on the animal. like most wild game how you cook it is every thing.

I've eatenit many times, and it is good, if you remove the sinew and don't dry it out.

Sinew and fat on a cougar is pretty rank...
