Was hunting the second to last day of the deer season here (Dec 9) and came through a landing and my buddy goes, "Somebody is walking a lot of dogs back here eh?"
lol, I was like no those are wolves and I know where they're going.
I had found a kill a day prior.
We hiked about a km from where we cut their tracks in the snow and dropped down into a swamp, sure enough we smelled the pack where they had come out of the swamp, then saw their tracks entering onto the deer trail we were on.
About 400 yards further, we slowed to a creep, I peeked around a stump and there was this girl chewing on a deer leg. I couldnt see any of the others due to the angle of the trail so I lined up my 7mm and popped her in the neck.
3 others scattered and we walked up to the wolf.
Th other wolves were making a ruckus in the bush , ripping up and down parallel to the trail, one ran out on the trail and was full tilt headed away from us, my buddy ran after it hoping to get a shot and just then I had a creepy feeling and yelled, "Dont chase it they're trying to separate us!"
Sounds stupid I know, but 2 secs later a big black one came running towards me from a perpendicular game trail and I swung my rifle around to shoot and it bolted to the left.
I couldnt believe how quick they were.
Needless to say we were scared (2nd year hunting for me) and we headed back the 2 km in the fast approaching darkness.
We 4x4'd back to the wolf in the dark and took pics in the headlights.

Never had a crack at a wolf since, if I knew better I woulda stuffed it.
When we got back to the wolf, the others were less than 100 yards away in the bush, sorrowly howling and moaning. Pretty sure it was the alpha female.

Hey Hummer

I used my Martin bow at 60 lbs with easton Aluminum's tipped with 125 gr Thunderheads, actually was calling bull moose, called in a cow moose that was being chased by the pack that had killed her calf, she stayed close to me for a while, then took off and left me with the wolves (had 5 circling me that I know of). He was the dominate male of the pack. The whole story is in our sponsor, Great Canadian Sportsman's website in their magazine Canadian Bowhunting.

Again, congrats guy and well done. Not an easy accomplishment, especially with a bow! I've recently picked up some 'goodies', an FX5 etc, to try for one of the same locally on the island but it'll be with a rifle at least to start with. If successful, later on I wouldn't mind trying for one with my bow. Thanks for the info and good shooting.

What do you guys do with a coyote? Can you keep tails? Heard before about gutting wolves(wear gloves) Whats up with this and is it the same for coyotes. Would you shoot a coyote with a 22, dont really want to blow one to pieces with a 7mm but have seen lots this year and the calling them in looks to be alot of fun!!

Baiting wolves? I know a few trappers who do this wondering what the odds are of going out wolf hunting and actually seeing them, as it sounds most of you with pics have incedently ran into them. any suggestions would be appreciated, only 20 days left for deer and would be cool to cut some holes in the ice and try calling in some yotes while have the rod in the water.

Alaskan brown bears and grizzlies are one and the same. There is s size difference, the Akaskan browns are larger, this may be in part to their almost exclusive fish diet and maybe genetics not to mention a tasty Treadwell or one of his companions once in a while.
Drakfero, you seem to be mesmerized by grizzlies. I would rather have an encounter with a grizzly than a black bear. A close encounter with a grizzly is going to get you beat up, chances are you are going to live, then again maybe not, it depends on how bad and how far away from medical aid; a close encounter with a black bear could mean he is stalking you with the intent of licking the meat off your bone. And if the black has ambushed you, you're going to be his "black forest ham".
Just don't get between a grizzly boar and his groceries or a grizzly sow and her cubs, heap bad medicene.
Drakfero, I have added this link for you, it describes the bears that you seek to know.

Pretty cool pics by all, I haven't really tried to shoot yotes....yet but with the winter duldroms starting to kick in it looks like a great way to get out, do most guys use the electronic call? (like triggers?) and by looking at the rifles, everyone has bipods so I'm assuming longer shots are the norm?

By the way to all the people who take offense to seeing blood or guts, close your eyes hunting isn't for the weak. We as hunters all share a common thing. That's respect for life & death even in it's final moments no matter how its presented. I shouldn't have to photo shop something in it's rarest form to please on-lookers.

Sorry dont know were that all came from just saying my piece btw good job to all if only the pics could talk they would have a story to tell I'm sure of it. I'm a little jealous to those who have taken a lynx or a bobcat & even a cougar. Great job.
