The kids were all up at 6:00 this morning so my wife and I decided to take them for a hunt. We got them all ready and loaded into the truck. Quick stop at Tims for some breakie and on our way. About half way to where we were planning on going 3 does walked out in front of us. The kids got a look and were excited to see deer moving. A few more km's down the trail and three more does crossed the road adding to the anticipation. After 25 or so 'are we there yet' we were on our choosen FSR. There were one set of truck tracks ahead of us in the mud so we decided to zig wherever they zagged. Well we didn't even make it to the 3km board and my wife says 'there's a buck!!'. Throw the binos up and yep he'll do. I grabbed my rifle and walked around the truck. One in the lungs at ~175yards and she was all over. Some high 5's with the kids and wife and then the work began. The 175 yards quickly turned into 500 as I drug him up the hill. By no means a monster but good enough for a batch or 2 of sausage. Sorry no field pics-camera was at home...

All in all it was a great morning and the first deer I have taken with my kids. They really enjoyed the experience.

Goodonya! The size of the buck matters not fore as you know that isn't the real prize! Once missed, days like that can never be recaptured!

The real question is "which one of the kids wants to put the antlers up on their bedroom wall"?

My daughter, hands down. She is a total keener when it comes to hunting.

Thanks for all the comment folks!

Nice work!!
Obviously you will never hear the dreaded, "Dad, how come we never shoot anything?" like I have so far!
I am jealous but we'll see what happens tomorrow. The 'Boy' and I are heading out.

Thats Hilarious! I woke my daughter(5yrs) up at 06:00 a few weeks ago to hunting and she just looks at me and said`ahhhh but we never get anything when we go hunting`I had to laugh. A week later me and my son(2yrs) got a buck. Rob

No moose this year. My elk LEH starts on the 15th of December. Other than that I got a few chickens and some pictures. A great season so far regardless.

Congrats on your success with the family at your side, we all need to try to introduce new comers to our sport and thats the way to do it.
Way to go.
