The moose hunting was as everyone had said, tough. One guy said it was like deer hunting with a moose tag, our joke by the end of it was it was like grouse hunting with a moose tag as none of us saw a deer the whole time. There were plenty moose, they just weren't cooperating, they moved from one thick timber jungle to another and we just were never in the right place at the right time. One in our group had a chance at one in the timber, but couldn't id it till he turned to vanish into the thick and dark. We were there 5 days and I never saw a moose although 1 bull cow and calf were seen by those in our group. I had fun never the less.

Here's quite a large deer we found laying by a spur road, probably hit by a truck, but had been covered in grass and leaves by?

Hit by a truck on a spur road? Hmm looks a little suspicious to me.

It's always fun getting out, and always better when you come home with something, better luck next year. A couple more pics.

At first I thought somebody poached it for the backstraps, but we rolled it over and the other side was in tacked with no sign of bullet holes. We drove by just before we left and there was almost nothing left but bones and hide.

The eyes are still in him, so it doesnt look like he was there for long...bears usually cover up their kills, so a possibility?

Maybe the owner of that little paw print did the deed.

Nyland Lake area?

Close to there. We hunted off the 300 road mostly. Rarely saw other hunters.

Nice buck looks like the deeds of a cougar. they don't care where they take down an animal.. The city police here Saskatoon just shot one in the city 2 weeks ago.

5-02d is a tough hunt unless there is some serious snow in 5-15 and -16. That seems to drive the moose out of the mountains into the lowlands where you were hunting. According to your pictures, there does not seem to be too much snow where you were hunting.
