I have an inclination to try for a Bobcat or Lynx in the upcoming season. Which am I most likely to see in the Lower mainland? I'm thinking Bobcat, but before I go and get the tag, I've got some homework to do.

Thanks in advance.

Steelco:

Bobcat over Lynx

Lots of good places around the eastern Fraser Valley and the lower Coquihalla to get a Bob.

IMHO the Lynx are more to the northern part of the Coq such as Merritt. I got on Bob at the Silver lake gravel[shooting] pit, and one off the lower Sowaqwa FSR.

I have seen many Bobs around the Vedder, Chilliwack lake and Chilliwack river area, as well as Silver lake and Coldwater areas.

Get a caller [Rabbit distress] and try calling them in :p

You'll get one

I worked up the north end of Harrison Lake this summer and seen 4 bobcat right around camp at the 84km on the west Harrison road. Also seen 2 up the sloquet creek road just past the Indian reserve. Either that or it was the same damn cat everytime which might be possible.

I've got a rabbit distress call, the kind you bite in your teeth. Just have to pick the right spot.
Thanks guys.

Just checked the Regs.

Looks like theres no open season for Lynx in region 2.
So you have to go just beyond the old toll booth or north of Spuzzum:razz:

i've seen many bobcat tracks in snow while fishing the Vedder river during steelhead season.
Also seen what i'm pretty sure is bobcat poop in the forests around Chillwack lake. So if i were you, i'd definitely give Chilliwack a try.

I am thinking that you have a better chance at tagging out on your neighbours cat :p

I've seen a few members her have good luck with them. I've also seen quite a few bits of evidence of critters myself in behind Mission in a few spots. And almost always can find tracks after a bit if snow. Once saw a mother and her 2 little ones up Sylvester road once.

It's worth a try if nothing else.

Just like a cat isnt it !? (to do that)

If you dont have hounds, mouse squeeks work very well for trigger. (done in more than a few lynx)

so what's the technique with hunting these guys around the lower mainland? set up on a clear cut and start calling with a small animal distress?

That's what I was going to try, but unfortunately I never did get out, all this damn snow and a U/S clutch on the Jeep. Still would be fun to get out and try calling them in and taking their picture!
