I tried one once hunting in the winter time for rabbits in New Brunswick,we cooked him over an open fire. First off if it's one of the red squirrels by the time you take the fur off and guts you realy don't have much. It tasted like pine cones so in my opinion it's not worth shooting unless you're starving to death. Grey or Fox squirrels on the other hand I don't know I've never tried them but I think their diet is different and they have a lot more to eat on them.Marc.

Can you hunt them all year round or is there a squirrel hunting season??? I wouldn't want to eat them but maybe make something from their pelts.....I quess it'd be better to trap them. Unless you're a really good shot & wouldn't ruin the pelt!

It's only legal to hunt Grey and Fox squirrel in BC and I think they fall under catagory "C" in the hunting synopsis.

Squirrels actually taste pretty good if they are cooked properly. Grey squirrels are good eating, especially the ones that have access to nuts.

I wonder what area would be the best to hunt them. Have you hunted them in BC?

They can be very irritating little buggers...I've been tempted many time to let them have it with the weatherby, but then I got ahold of myself and tried to ignore them.....

Columbia ground squirrels in many areas have a no bag limit. Never eaten them though, Squirrel hunting is fairly big the states.
